I'll just say this. 

1. When you are trying to run the clock out, you don't snap the ball with less than 5 seconds on the play clock.  Could have easily run off an extra 25 seconds on that last possession.
2. When you are trying to run the clock out, you don't do any pass unless it's iron-clad that you can complete it.  Make them burn their last time out.
3. When you are trying to run the clock out, you don't down a punt unless you have to do so to keep it out of the end zone.  You let it roll, even if it is bouncing backwards.  The seconds count more than a few yards.

All that is ultimately on the coaches.  And you do those things and the refs wouldn't have mattered.
