Maybe this could be pinned, so we have a source to track the hires?

I would support his hiring. Not coming home to Oregon but plenty of experience in the Pac-12. Not sure we would get any transfers from BYU! But given his successes against Pac-12 teams...good choice by Mullens to at least speak with him.

From what I understand, he has a couple knocks against him:
* He does not care much for the recruiting process. BYU pretty much has a baked in pool of talent due to the nature of the school. Selling upwards of 100 recruits all at once versus sorting and filtering the applicants who already want to play on your team.
* Not a lot of confidence in his ability to keep the juice flowing for a complete P5 conference slate of games- his team only playing 3-4 tough games per year vs nine games plus a tough non-con.
He is a safe pick, not splashy, and UO might take a hit as a national brand if recruiting efforts pull back to the Western US... Not a fan of this candidate...

I got the same impression with his lack of recruiting.

I also agree. He's been impressive at BYU, no doubt. But recruiting the West Coast / California just got harder, in case nobody noticed. So I don't love hiring someone who isn't going to recruit nationally, unless we manage to get someone who is such a big name that we'll still be the top dog for recruiting on the West Coast.

I drank the Mario "recruiting is key" Cristobal Kool-Aid for 4-years and now I am more in a "Can he hire good assistants AND coach" mindset.
Recruiting doesn't win games, coaching does. Georgia's starting QB is a former walk-on.
The fact Sitake can be a successful coach within a very defined scope of what is available to him for recruiting...tells me a lot about his abilities to COACH.
The Pac-12 doesn't play tough games every week...what were Oregon's quality conference wins this season? Zero.
And the only quality conference opponent kicked our a** twice...oh and BYU beat that team...just like Oregon State too...but mighty Oregon with lots of elite recruits got crushed. Coaching.
Sitake went 5-0 against the Pac-12 teams. Almost half his season. Plus they played Baylor(Big 12 Champions), Utah State(Mountain West Champions), Boise State, Virginia, USF and a few cream puffs...finished 10-2 with a schedule that maybe 1 or 2 Pac-12 teams could match playing the same schedule.
If you look on Rivals as one example, BYU is ranked in the 60's for recruiting which puts them ahead of teams in every P5 Conference.
Sorry I am not buying the lack of recruiting and playing quality opponents narrative.
Sitake is not my first choice but I think he is a qualified candidate and I am sure would do well at Oregon.

Sitake would be an alright choice as I value coaching and he seems pretty good. Given options, a coach that checks both coaching and recruiting should be the first calls.
You need both recruiting and coaching to win it all and the stats prove it. It doesn't matter how good the coaching is in that you can only coach up a team so much.
You mention Georgia and Georgia is the number 1 ranked school for recruiting over the last 5 years. Alabama is the 2nd best. There's never been a school with a 20+ recruiting class to win it all at least not in any recent decade. You need both and there's plenty of data to prove so. Although, I've heard the case made that Ed Orgeron was a lousy coach and simply won it with amazing talent.
Here's a chart that shows the schools to win a championship and their average recruiting rank the past 4 years. The data is a little old from 2016, but you can look at see it's still holding true the last 4 years with Alabama, Clemson, and LSU all having top recruiting rankings since this data was compiled. Edit: the chart won't paste in it's origonal format so here's the link to the chart and article:
SEASON NATIONAL CHAMPIONAVERAGE RANK 2003LSU12th, 2004USC (Vacated)8th, 2005Texas8th, 2006Florida5th, 2007LSU8th, 2008Florida5th, 2009Alabama8th, 2010Auburn16th, 2011Alabama3rd, 2012Alabama2nd, 2013Florida State6th, 2014Ohio State4th, 2015Alabama1st, 2016Clemson13th
If you factor in the past 4 years all the teams had high ranked classes. Looking at the numbers the worst rated recruiting class to win it all was the 2010 Auburn team with the 16th rated recruiting class.

Some players are starting to bang the “Make BMAC the head coach” drum on Twitter.

He's young and dynamic...great recruiter...sounds like when the players wanted MC.

This makes the bowl game more intriguing. It would be really encouraging if the players really came out with some fire and lit it up.
Edit: What am I thinking? Does he even coach this game? I'm a assuming the coaching search will be done by then anyway.

Interesting that as our 2022 HC, this shows the name Dan.

Dan Lanning? I wonder if this is an accident or some kind of hack?
