The big takeaway is that the Ducks have talked to someone in the NFL. Joe Brady is already out and I heard some noise about him talking to Mario about joining the Canes staff.

Could the Ducks have talked to Eric Bieniemy? I hope so.

Last Saturday while driving home from Shelton, WA, I heard a couple of guys on a sports radio station discussing Matt Rhule and whether he might return to college coaching. One of them said he didn’t see Rhule taking the jobs the other guy mentioned (I think Temple and Virginia?) and that he only saw him doing it if someplace like Oregon opened up.

I was just scanning for any game or football-related thing I could listen to, so I don’t know what the show or station was, so I can’t look it up to see if they’ve said anything else, but I have heard others mention Rhule since Mario left.

Rhule would be a big hire. I like that he has a good college resume.

Re: Who do you want the Ducks to get at HC

Cazano's Updates:
-The Ducks asked Cal for permission to interview Wilcox, which probably happened last night or this morning

-The Ducks have not asked for permission from UCLA to talk to Chip

-Sources have it that the Sitake did not go well for some unknown reason.

-Lane Kiffin has not been interviewed and it's Cazano's opinion that he's not of interest at this point at least.

Update 1:05
- Ducks just asked permission to speak to Chip

- Also his opinion that the Ducks are going after big whale hires right now and Wilcox could be the fallback plan, which would include finding a big name OC if he did get the job.

- Canzano thinks this will go quick and could wrap up by Monday

I'm hoping for a quick, splashy, win-now hire. I'm not getting any younger, and want to watch the Ducks win a National Championship in the next few years. 🤙🏽🍻

Please, not CK..that Chip has sailed. If PK thinks the Chipster will work the same magic, he's delusional. I'm curious as to the Sitake interview, and so far, the rest of the names are very underwhelming. There has to be more to all this.

I sure hope they're not serious about making a second run with him. They might just be covering their bases with due diligence by hearing him out in an interview.

I agree. It's not possible for him to recreate what he did in Eugene 2007-12.

Re: Who do you want the Ducks to get at HC

So far I'm pretty disappointed by the current confirmed interviews. I'm afraid the Ducks will be out of the running for a playoff run anytime soon unless they can find somebody else.

That being said if we're not able to get a proven outside coach that can both coach well and recruit I have a new name. What about David Shaw? Why isn't anyone talking about him? I've always respected him and he checks the box on character all the way. That's not the main reason I'm mentioning him as he's had success. He's put together a number of 10+ win seasons. And like all the excuses I hear for Wilcox Stanford has the same limitations if not even more when it comes to academics. They hardly even have fans. Yes, Cal has Covid restrictions, but that's only been the last 2 years. While he plays a clock game of pound and ground he has shown the ability to get big explosive offensive from talented players. I.e.Christian McCaffrey! His style of play might be part of what he has to work with. Yes, they had a down year, but they had a lot of injuries and 1 year doesn't take away from all his successful years.

Don't get me wrong, David Shaw is not my first choice. I rather see someone with a more aggressive offense. Maybe he has no interest anyway. I know he's not an Oregon guy, however he's a West Coast guy who's stayed with his team for a while, which I would think appeal to some of the Ducks fans who are really concernedf about a coach leaving again.

Quite a few Stanford kids in the NFL thanx to Mr. Shaw...would fit with the O line guys we have now...I like the guy, but isn't a splashy hire.

Re: Who do you want the Ducks to get at HC

I just don't see Shaw leaving his alma mater to coach another team in the Pac-12. He has coached in the NFL too. He is a Stanford guy and if you have ever heard him in an interview, he LOVES coaching academically smart kids.

He and his wife have 3 kids and his wife Kori...

Graduated in 1997 with a BS in Mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1999, received her MS (Mechanical engineering) from the University of California, Berkeley.
She was the vice-president of business development for the Think Computer Corporation; subsequently was an investor for Rothenberg Ventures in San Francisco. She is nowadays, the Director of Production at Sonoma.

You think SHE is moving to Eugene?

As per Cal vs Stanford as it relates to Wilcox vs Shaw...the difference is an its major... Stanford's COMMITMENT to the football program far exceeds that at Cal.

😁😂 Thanks and typical FD article... let's just throw anything out there since after 10-years of operation we still have no access to Our Beloved Ducks, inside sources and anything at all that would suggest even an ounce of credibility beyond what we are which is nothing more than a fan boy website.

Look, any of us here can advocate why almost any P5 head coach "would work well at Oregon." They all have something which could benefit the Ducks.

How about Ryan Day coming to Oregon?!? He and Chip Kelly coached together at New Hampshire and still keep in close contact. There you go...Oregon should go after Ryan Day!😂 Maybe if the Ducks act fast enough he won't coach in the Rose Bowl.🙄

Anyone can dream and drop names of potential candidates because it takes ZERO TALENT.

Matt Ruhle, other than one year as a DL coach at UCLA in 2001 has zero football experiences with west coast football. What possible evidence(reality) is there that he would leave the NFL for Eugene, Oregon with his wife and 3 kids?

I know it's alma mater and likes coaching Stanford kids, which is why he may not be interested. I didn't know what his wife's job is. That's definitely a no go. The reasons you mentioned are presumably why I haven't heard anything, because I would think Oregon would at least be interested in talking to him.

The UCLA 247 site is claiming Ducks will hire Kelly. It's VIP, so it's only the headline, no article unless you're signed up.
