Still made of tin foil, extra small…
I think that the Ducks are playing rope-a-dope with this process. I think they are releasing their B list to the public whilst negotiating with their A list behind the curtain, the goal being another “WHOA” type of response from the sports world.
Expect a big announcement before early signing day.
That said, if they whiff bad at the A-List, I’ll take Wilcox as the fallback plan….

I have a different vibe. With the impending 5th head coach hire since Mike Bellotti stepped down in 2008, I think they are weary of repeating this process every 3-4 years and are focusing not just on the best coach available but the best coach FOR Oregon.
Kelly, Helfrich and Cristobal were "convenient hires" as they were already on staff. They went outside the program for Taggart but got burned with a bad contract and played by Taggart himself.
Oregon was the first P5 head coaching job for all 4 of them.
Therefore...
*No more convenient hires.
*No more first P5 head coaching job hires / learning on the job.
*No more hires of someone whose "home" is on the East coast.
No more hires of someone with no connections to the University of Oregon in some form or fashion.

Most of the Kelly stories I've seen are in the national media. Plus, locally or nationally, Kelly's name garners far more attention and clicks. At least I hope that's why we're hearing so much about it.
