Yeah, was hoping not to lose kids already on the roster. I'm suppose there will be more...gonna suck until a new staff is in place.

What disappoints me is he said many times throughout his years in HS that he loved our school. As soon as there was a coaching change he shows that it is the coach that he loves, and not our school. All the best to him, but...
Go Ducks!

Come on. Seriously. You are ripping on a young man because of what he said in high school...HIGH SCHOOL!?? Good grief. That is exactly what is wrong with the whole recruiting culture. People are way too invested in where teenage boys choose to go to college.

Plus he probably figured he would play for a head coach who wasn't a beginner and learning on the job.

A defensive coordinator gets his first ever head coaching job and almost immediately it is reported he is targeting a 31-year old OC who has been coaching like 5-years and currently has the 9th best offense in the ACC. If I was in his shoes, I would be gone too.

I wasn’t ripping. I said I was disappointed. Geez. You sure are sensitive.
Funny thing happened on my way here… Seven decided to stay with the DC who is a first time HC.

Great news! Apparently he changed his mind after talking to Lanning.

When I heard Akili Smith interviewed earlier today he said a number of the players were doing backflips when they heard Lanning was the hire. Akili is supporting Lanning too.

I was listening to Joey on 1080 with Suke. Some very interesting stuff was said on the show not only about “the letter” but stuff Suke and A Nemec were talking about after the Joey interview.

ROFL okay now that he changed his mind "I wasn't ripping him" after you called him out for leaving based on what he said in high school. Hilarious.

Re: Let the decommitments role

Good to see McGee cancel his intent to enter the portal at this time.  Good to see that Lanning was a direct reason for the decision.  McGee is a talent and could very well be an asset in a new offensive scheme assuming a role that the likes of DAT and Nelson played- a danger who can be anywhere on the field at any time and be a danger to score once the ball is in his hands.

Lanning has some tough sledding.  Recruiting the current team members to hang in there and recruiting HS commits to do the same and recruiting coordinators and evaluating position coaches.  All while participating in the invitational run by his former team.  If can sign a T25 class and have some guys exercise patience, think he has a chance to have a great Spring season and get some momentum and excitement building up to fall camp and a chance to see what this team is made of against UGA out of the gate.

No doubt he's got a lot on his plate. Speaks volumes ,I think, that he convinced a RB to rethink the portal. We'll probably have to rely on the portal for some positions, but that's what Mel Tucker did at MSU, and it worked out well for him. Time will tell, but I'm excited to see what the Spring game will show. I like this guy.

Agree. Agree. Agreed.

D Lanning recruiting the current roster should be the top priority. A Nemec predicted that 2022 would have been a down year for our Ducks even if M Cristobal was still the HC.

That would have depended on who returned, whether we an OC that could use our talent, whether our QB, whoever won the spot, played up to his star ratings or not (because AB didn't play consistently at even a 4 star level, let alone 5 star), and finally whether the team found the drive that only a few (like Travis and Noah) were showing at the end of the year.

Returning offensive linemen, WRs, RBs?  Check.  Returning LBs and secondary?  Check.  Loads of talent returning all over the field, maybe not so much on the D line, depending on who left.  But next year's team was going to have plenty of talent to rack up 10 or more wins.  If they wanted it badly.

Admittedly the schedule is tougher next year.  Hosting BYU and vs. Georgia in Arlington has to be one of the toughest OOC slates out there.  We also have to host Utah which will be tough.  But the toughest true road games are at WSU and OSU and those should be winnable, and I'd hope we can at least split the home games against the Utah schools.

I am okay with this one IF we can keep the 3 we have now. Plus Bailey wasn't going to play anyway for 2-3 years under Cristobal's "process"...so we haven't lost much...yet.

If we've learned anything over the years, its that we need two good arms. Hope that is Ty and Jay (in that order). I just want a three year starter again...

I didn't get the impression KONA was ripping on the kid..he did wish him well. It's tough not to be disappointed when a kid gushes about Oregon, then bolts when the staff changes. Still, it's the right of every kid to do what's best for them. I too wish him well.

and after all that, he changes his mind and won't enter the portal..Kids

I didn't read it that way either, and he is staying! The portal is a siren song. These kids probably have to flirt with it on social media to just stay in coaches' minds. Calculated times when we have college free agency and kids making hundreds of thousands of dollars. Ewers hasn't ever thrown a pass and is a college millionaire...

Some will swing our way, also. Not necessarily from GA's class at present, but kids Coach Dan has been recruiting...
