There seems to be this storyline that there will be competition in the QB room, but color me skeptical. I doubt Nix is coming here without a strong feeling he will be the starter. Here is some analysis and some comparisons to AB...time for a drink

Stats can be interpreted many different ways... positive and negative.
One very important unknown factor is what this does to the player morale / attitude who have been practicing with JB and RA for 2-years and TT for 1-year? To say nothing of the QB's themselves?
The transfer portal is VERY ACCESSIBLE and I am extremely disappointed the new coaching staff of only a couple of weeks already feels they need a "fix" at the QB position?? They couldn't wait like 90-days until Spring Camp? Nix wasn't the first and won't be the last good QB in the transfer portal.

In fairness to the coaching staff, I really doubt they made this decision in a vacuum. They'll have talked to the coaches that have been here like Moorhead and McLendon. They'll probably have watched some film of practice.
Fact: if Ty looked like a 5 star in practice, he'd be playing when AB looked horrible. Even if you blame Mario for that, it doesn't explain why AB is starting the bowl game. So Ty doesn't look like a 5 star in practice.
That might be an indictment of the coaches who failed to develop the younger guys, but it doesn't mean the new staff are making a mistake. I don't like it but I'm not ready to assume it's a bad decision. They want to hold the roster together, and to do that the players have to believe they'll be competitive this year. The players know if Ty is or isn't ready.

Cristobal sabotaged these QB's with his nonsensical approach to basically only playing the starter regardless of their performances. His track record is well established i.e. Didn't play Shough when Herbert was the starter; didn't play Brown when Shough was the starter and didn't play JB, RA and TT when Brown was the starter.
By "didn't play" = meaningful minutes.
If you(Cristobal) have THREE 4* or 5* QB's and you can't figure out a way to have them play for a series / possession / quarter when the starter is struggling...even after some of them have been practicing with the team for 2- years, that is 100% a coaching problem.
If you are a new head coach and inherit THREE 4* or 5* QB's and you can't wait more than a couple of weeks to bring in someone else for the position...that is 100% a coaching problem.

I at least partly agree. Of course, it's possible that these guys were lazy and didn't work and didn't learn the playbook and didn't follow instructions. If that's the case, I'd still say it's a coaching breakdown, either in failing to properly vet guys in recruiting, or failure to motivate, or failure to hold guys accountable.
Here's the thing. If the problem is that the previous coaches didn't develop these guys, I can't tell the new guy, "You should sabotage your first season without a competent QB" because of that.
So while I really, really don't like bringing in Nix, I can't say I blame the new coaches for that. If the young guys aren't ready, they aren't ready. That's not on Lanning and his guys, if that's the case.
Of course, if even one of the young guys is ready, you go with that and develop someone else behind him, IMO. In that case, if you have a scholarship to give a grad transfer, you give it to a receiver, we suddenly need depth there.

If I am the new coach at a program and I see the film of a QB that gave the team "the best chance to win" last year afraid to throw downfield, checking down to the safety valve on third and long and constantly sacking himself, then it seems reasonable to go hunting for some sort of known quantity to provide a measure of insurance at the position. If the QB room is that bad in reality, it would be derelict to ignore it while decent talent is available to transfer in.
That said, I choose to believe the QB room is fine in terms of talent, they just need coaching and development. None of them so far have hit the portal, even with the news of a transfer coming in. That bodes well. I am sure one will hit the portal after Spring, but at least they will have had a chance to compete at the program they committed to before making such a decision.
The reality is that Oregon is not going to be in playoff talk next season. Coaching needs to figure out what it has, what they can do and how to win the division and conference. It's not a rebuild, but a change in culture that will take another 2-3 seasons to settle in. The program under MC was regressing. Two bouts against Utah where we were knocked down and out in the early rounds was enough for me to be good with a change to occur, so we once again need to water the bamboo and enjoy the ride...

He seems like a bit of a game manager. Not a lot of picks, which is promising. However, not great over 10 yards especially on 3rd down. Sounds kind of familiar.
Auburn press and fans seem to be sorry he's leaving.
I would feel a lot better about this if he wasn't promised or even suggested he's the automatic starter and our current QB's were communicated with about the matter.
As far as the Ducks QB's we have now is a big question mark. I don't think it's for certain that Ty or Jay never saw the field simply because Mario never put them in. I'd have to think with the talent at the position something is really wrong if all 3 of them show no signs of being able to take over next year. This just isn't the lower QB talent level of past Ducks teams. From watching the spring game it sure looked like Ty and Jay have an arm. If they really are way off the previous coaching must have something to do with it.

Ducks have three 4*+ guys on the team. Are you telling me that out of three highly recruited guys, none can play. How is that even possible? The previous staff should be ashamed of themselves. MC just landed $9 mil a year. For what?
