Football lost a great One

John Madden has passed away. He made watching the game fun for me, and many others. RIP, John!

He could coach too! As the video tribute in this article notes, his 10-year record in the NFL is still the highest winning percentage in league history for a head coach.

Two-time honoree in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Pretty good for a guy who never played a down in the NFL!

Enjoyed reading his book of many years ago about traveling in his custom bus around the country(as a broadcaster) and never by plane. It was also quite an honor to be chosen as his bus driver for a year.

Definitely simplified the game for the viewer and made for an enjoyable watch i.e. "Now watch the big 'ol tackle Jenkins move out to his left and BOOM right there his block..."

Thanks for the memories! RIP

Yep, the Madden Cruiser. He gave out the Turkey Leg award on Thanksgiving, and later was introduced to a Turducken...some of those turkeys had a few extra legs, for the stars and the Big Uglies  (shout out to Keith Jackson)

Re: Football lost a great One

We lost a legend.

He could make the most boring games enjoyable to watch. I remember him calling and early 2000's game of my Bears with Michaels. The Bears offense was dreadful. After a sack and penalties on 3rd down and 30 something yards Michaels says " I don't know if the Bears have many plays in the book for 30 yards" Madden responded "I don't know if they have any plays for 5 yards". I remember having a good chuckle with my fellow Bears fans on the blunt assessment.

He'll be missed, but never forgotten.
