Well, I have to say, at first, this staff was looking like Dan Lanning was simply hiring a bunch of inexperienced "friends of Dan." But more recent hires, while perhaps some of them like this guy are still pretty young, have broader experience. And it's really looking like a national search going on. I don't see a "Dan Lanning connection" here, or an Oregon connection for that matter, this guy is being hired (if he is) because they think he's a good coach.
I don't know if these guys really are good coaches and if this staff is going to work but it's looking like what I'd like a coaching staff to look like, in general. That's not to say I believe every hire is a good one and I'm waiting to be convinced on the OC particularly, but I'm willing to be convinced.

I think Lanning is putting together a strong staff, and while some have ties to him, others don't...I like the strong recruiting chops of many of these dudes, and all seem to have experienced success at other places in developing players. Now to see how many kids stick around; we have a strong group if most come back.

It is pretty clear Lanning is doing everything possible to hire coaches in his age range with limited experience...that is what insecure leaders do when they are intimidated by anyone who is older and more experienced.
Oh he made his token "veteran coach" hire with the guy from Penn State but come on...a RB coach from Western Kentucky(for one season) who spent the prior 2-years as Director of High School Relations at Florida State in 2020 and Memphis in 2019. Other duties at Memphis included being an offensive analyst and weight room assistant for 2-years!?!
Now this guy is going to be the RB coach at a P5 school??? Based on WHAT EXPERIENCE?
But perhaps veteran coaches don't want to come to Oregon under a head coach with ZERO head coaching experience and wait while he learns on the job.

Really? Compare Klemm's age and experience to Lanning's.
Same with Martin. Tosh Lupoi is only 5 years older but has loads of experience. Tuioti is 17 years older than Lanning and has been coaching since Lanning was in high school. Lorig is 48 with lots of experience.
I'm a little concerned about some of the young "friends of Dan" but we're getting some guys with really good experience, too. I don't see any of this insecurity you're talking about. I see a young guy who spent a lot of time talking football with some other young guys he's worked with, liked their ideas, and wants to implement it. But I also see a really good mix of coaches who are considerably older than him with lots more experience.
I think we very likely are seeing a young coach make some hiring mistakes. But I don't see the insecurity. A guy who's made his name and earned his chance as a defensive coach and is insecure wouldn't be bringing in Martin, Lupoi, or Tuioti. He'd want defensive coaches he could dominate, if he's insecure, rather than guys with that kind of experience.

I sure hope those aren't true. They weren't citing any sources. I'm not saying they may not be true either.

Well, someone has sold the O-line on the new coaching staff, 5 starters back now. That's very encouraging.
It should mean we have a strong rushing attack. We know we have good receivers, and we should have decent QB play -- even if the young guys can't beat out Nix, despite his inconsistency in general he's pretty good.
If the coaching is reasonably good we will have a pretty strong offense, maybe even better than this year. The defense may also be better, if the LBs can stay healthy.
A good team next year should help the staff recruit, too.

I certainly like this one better than some of the other offensive staff. This guy is a good coach. He was Cooper Kupp's coach at EWU, as well as having a good reputation as a recruiter his coaching record with WRs looks very good. If we have a QB that can get them the ball, our young WRs should blossom under him.

Having the O-line back is huge and says something.
Has anyone heard word on CJ and Travis coming back? I'm sold on Cardwell. Sean Dollars looked like he had a lot of potential if he can stay healthy. With the returning and better play calling they could be really good. The Ducks RBs were forced to run against a wall like the Utah games and good benefit from a passing attack.
Having Flowe back with Sewell could be a game changer. I'm a little concerned about out corners with the outgoing departures.

I give the OL a pass for this season because I don't think they were capable of performing at the level required with the "scheme"(cough cough) handed to them by the head coach. But I would say that is true for any OL in the country if they had been at Oregon...what Cristobal wanted just wasn't realistic given the QB situation. Plus Oregon was a DC's dream come true to prepare for with its run first mentality.
So I have a very limited idea what the OL can do but I am certain there needs to be an entirely fresh approach for the offense and developing a QB who can CONSISTENTLY make the offense work well.
