I was curious to see what the attendance was for PAC 12 teams this past week. I got these figures from the ESPN website.
Berkeley 31,982 51% capacity
Boulder 47,482 95%
Eugene 42,782 79%
LA (UCLA) 50,698 57%
Pullman 24,714 75%
Seattle 58,772 84%
Tucson 33,481 66%
The following games were PAC 12 teams playing on the road.
Carson 11,090 41% Utah at San Diego State
Nashville 21,124 52% Stanford at Vanderbilt
Provo 61,570 97% ASU at BYU
Who's missing from this list? Aw, the Beavers from Corvallis.
Evidently OSU didn't bother to list the game attendance for ESPN.
The Beaver website says the attendance for the game was 26,797.
I suspect that was tickets sold, not fans in the stands.
I read a few Beaver comments suggesting it was around 20,000.
How can this school make any money if fans don't support it?
In other news, former Duck Cyrus Habibi-Likio had a five yard run
for a touchdown for the Boise State Broncos. His stats were
eight carries for 27 yards and one touchdown.
I realize were just getting into the heart of the football season
but can't help getting pumped for Duck Basketball...only 50 days until tipoff!
GO DUCKS!

Honestly, with many folks over the last 18 months investing pretty substantially into their homes with nice patio setups and entertainment rooms and such, it seems to make a lot of sense that more folks are going to opt to hunker down with buddies and better food/drink options (and better weather!) to take in the games. Most guys I know have opted out of season tix in lieu of spending the cash on one home game as well as taking in one road game and that experience.
That said, college football is losing some momentum as the "haves" are able to be counted on two hands while the have-nots are flailing. Parity is almost non-existent, hence why these NIL deals have been accepted with relative ease so at least a kid going to Kentucky can get paid the same or better than if he attended Tennessee. But that is money that used to go to athletic departments as funding support, so the hope is that investment in a player can translate to more fans in seats at the games... Hell, Nebraska can't sell out anymore without private boosters buying up the seats.
It's going to get ugly and most likely result in the new "elite" division of competition already being bandied about...
Can we solve this in the forum?

I agree completely, Jeff. It felt like my wife and I were under house arrest these past 18 months. Never thought this is how I would spend my retirement. Finally, we made a move to get out. Just spent six days in Yachats, now where heading to Wallowa Lake for a week. Then it's off to Yuma in the middle of October to spend some time with my wife's family and friends. It feels good to get away. As far as attending football games, I am like a lot of other fans...pizza, chips and beer in front of the big screen tv. Gotta love it.

The challenge in the Pac-12 is 8 of the 12 teams are in major cities / markets with professional sports teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL in various combinations...so a lot of competition for consumer sports entertainment dollars.
The remaining 4 are the only game in town but 2 are small in both population and stadiums(Corvallis and Pullman). Tucson is good sized at around half-a-million people but the product is not great.
The Ducks have an overall good athletic program in both men and women's sports with nice facilities to watch games... football, basketball, softball, baseball and track & field.
For all of the above this is why whatever Commissioner Kliavkoff does in the area of media negotiations is so important for the financial well-being of the Conference. Go Ducks!

Hi bedupivi!
I'm guessing the Ducks attendance will go back to sellouts or close to it. We haven't had a Pac team yet and students were gone for Fresno and then a rainy game against one of the worst teams we've played last week
Good for Cyrus. We have so many backs now and he didn't get many carries so I don't blame him for leaving.
This could be a great year for basketball. Dana has had to deal with injuries replacing most of the roster the past couple years. Hard to believe it's less than 50 days away.
Go Ducks!

I found this informative about the youngersters on the team.

So can we view the CIN v ALA game as a "X's and O's" vs "Jimmies and Joes" match up?

Mostly, Alabama pretty much has it all. Saban's made a few questionable calls over the years. He's a pretty good X's and O's coach too besides tops in recruiting.
Cincinnati is something else with what they're doing. They're getting great player development. Fickell was my first choice for a coach and I'm assuming he wasn't a option. In terms of lower level talent, has there been another team like this in the playoff.

I appreciate that analysis, Phil. Good stuff!

WIth that being said. I'm sure L Fickell wouldn't mind if his players were as big, fast, strong, and of high football IQ as N Saban's players are.
CIN 2021 reminds me of our Ducks back in 2011.

Oh, and RIP Betty White. To me, she's always been the most golden of the Golden Girls.

Too bad we couldn't go back to 2011. It sure was fun watching the Ducks back then.
RIP to Betty White. I just read an article about her coming up on 100. She said her secret was to not eat anything green. The article also mentioned her fondness for vodka martinis!
I'll have to find an old Golden Girls episode for kicks sometime.
