With the football season over with, I was looking forward to following the PAC-12 basketball season, especially the Ducks, although they have been a huge disappointment so far. With so many games either being postponed or cancelled, I checked to see how the other conferences have fared. Here's the results...
ACC 10 postponed 1 cancelled 11 total
BIG 10 1 postponed 12 cancelled 13 total
BIG 12 2 postponed 4 cancelled 6 total
PAC 12 16 postponed 7 cancelled 23 total
SEC 3 postponed 3 cancelled 6 total
23 games from the "Conference of Champions!" No wonder the PAC doesn't command any respect from the rest of the country. With the one exception of Sacramento State vs. Oregon State (flight cancelled due to snow storm) all these postponements or cancellations have to due with the Covid Virus. Are people more sick on the West Coast compared to the rest of the country. Or is the PAC-12 conference following more strict guidelines imposed by the states that they reside in? If this continues, we could see basketball games or tournaments cancelled once again.

My answer to your question is “Yes”.

The Ducks looked great in their very first game of the season. I almost posted about it. They've looked absolutely horrible at other times. Not a lot of great shooters from the outside this year. Will Richardson isn't playing as well as I and everyone else figured.
Dana's team peak late, but they're really in a hole. They might have to win the Pac Tournament just to get in. At this point it doesn't seem like they have much of a chance.
I didn't realize the Pac is doing far worse in terms of canceled games and wouldn't know why.
Things might be real bad this month, but I'm totally optimistic for March. This new wave is shooting numbers up quick and then dropping real quick in countries that were hit earlier than us. By March the situation should be a lot better.

I have reached that point of...
The virus doesn't care. It doesn't care about protocols, opinions about getting vaccines or wearing masks and it certainly doesn't care about how many cancellations / postponements are happening to college basketball games.
Whatever any of us think is happening with college basketball, one thing is certain...the virus doesn't care.
It is a virus and will ALWAYS seek the path of least resistance.
I know what I have done personally to create what I believe is the strongest resistance, but again, the virus doesn't care.
Therein lies a great sports challenge...we are facing an opponent who doesn't care what our opinions of it as it devotes its energies to finding the least resistant path.

The interview with the P12 commish addresses this issue. The states with the strictest protocols and such concerning this whatever it is now virus are in the P12, hence the uphill sledding here vs other parts of the country. Oregon was the last state with an outdoor mask mandate in place and only dropped it days before the Civil War game. I have more I would say on this issue, but I am inclined to ride shotgun with DR's comments in lieu of going down a rabbit hole outside the purview of this forum.

Ducks and Beavs were scheduled to play this weekend, but it's now cancelled with Covid issues in the Ducks program. Obviously, some states are reacting more strongly to COVID than others...witness the SEC not even thinking of pausing football last year, which then forced the B1G and PAC to restart. Personally, I'm taking it seriously. I just got called for jury duty, which normally would be no problem..but I can opt out due to my age, and I'm thinking that is what I'll do..this shit sucks, but as DR said, the virus don't care.
