Re: Travis Dye enters Portal

This one is a head scratcher.I thought he would declare for the draft: while he's a little small, there are backs his size getting an NFL paycheck. Lots of speculation about maybe returning, and also maybe looking for an NIL deal from someone. To me, Travis entering the portal is a clear sign this thing is broken.

The NIL was my first thought as well as to why he would enter the portal. Somebody's probably offering him money to leave and now it's Oregon's turn to offer back. Just pure speculation on my part of course.

The whole college system and nuts right now.

If there's anything positive about the NIL it's maybe that players will be more likely to stay in college. If you're a fringe player for the draft and now you can make money by staying, I could see this influencing a lot of players to stay.

Re: Travis Dye enters Portal

Many posts ago I thought that hitting the portal would be the best move for him.  He has done a lot for king and country at UO and I am not sure next year he would be the #1 featured back anyway if CJ returns and the other behind him are the real deal coming out of Spring ball.  Why not jump for the last year, get that masters degree going and go for the pro opportunity?

Re: Travis Dye enters Portal

The new way to "go fishing" and check out what is available i.e. no harm no foul.

I believe he is automatically eligible for the NFL Draft and has until February 4th to opt out. Plenty of time to explore options.

Maybe he has been evaluated by NFL scouts who recommended another year of college football would help is case BUT at a different school.

The odds of just getting DRAFTED are under 2%...and that is not even making a team. So in a sport where your career could end with one play...I have no issues with the NIL...if Dye has an opportunity to make money at another school...he should take it.

Look no further than Oregon who just hired a head coach slated to make $30 million over 6-years...and he has ZERO head coaching experience?!? THAT IS A BROKEN SYSTEM.

Re: Travis Dye enters Portal

Dye isn't a NFL back. My thought is he is using the portal to up his stock with the PKs of the world. He knows he probably won't have an NFL career.  Get a little cash to seed the future after college.

Re: Travis Dye enters Portal

Yep. This is a tough one for me, but welcome to the new era of college football. I won't root for him, but we don't play them next year unless in the CCG, and I doubt they beat Utah. Seems like U$C is bringing in a lot of skill position players when their biggest needs are along their lines, but whatever.

Re: Travis Dye enters Portal

I'm not bothered by this.  He got engaged, they are starting their life together where they want to live.  There are bigger things than football. Maybe they are crazy to want to live down there, but if that's what they want, then get on with life!

Good luck, Travis, thanks for fighting for every yard on every play.  Your brother was a warrior, and I thought you were too small as a RB to bring that warrior mentality, I thought you'd just get slammed to the ground and all the fight in the world wouldn't stop that.  You proved me wrong.  You and your brother are Duck heroes in my thinking and this doesn't change that.

We'll be ok, we have some great RBs even if CJ doesn't come back.  I think he's coming back, though.

Re: Travis Dye enters Portal

Following the bouncing ball of coaching hires this is hardly shocking.

USC, in stark contrast to Oregon, hired an offensive oriented experienced head coach who in turn hired a very experienced OC(Josh Henson).

Dye has one year of eligibility remaining; he is from California; engaged to his high school sweetheart...the dots all connect for choosing USC.(I wonder if Chip tried to get him to come to UCLA?)

However, make no mistake, he has serious numbers from the 2021 season that have to come from ? in 2022...as in...

Over 1,200 yards rushing

16 rushing TD's

Over 400 receiving yards on 46 catches

2 receiving TD's

Oregon scored 57 TD's...Dye had almost 1/3 of those with 18.

He lead the team in both rushing and receiving yards.

You don't replace those numbers with a snap of the fingers.

I appreciate everything he did at and for Oregon.
