The charade of what was once known has Oregon football grows

So let's try to understand the the rationale behind Oregon's new approach to the world of college football of pay more for less.

Bring in young and MUCH LESS experienced coaches but compensate them equally or more than the previous far more experienced coaches?!?

Never did I imagine Oregon would adopt a hiring philosophy for the #1 revenue producing sport that devalues experience and then pay equal or more for it.

I don't think it has anything to do with Oregon's rationale. It's the rising pay scale of college football. Oregon can't just pay what they feel or think they should. All coaches are making more money with every new contract. If JM stuck around he would've gotten a big raise on his next contract. Oregon tried to entice Mario to stick around for 8 Mil, which does seem absurd. I agree that the money for Kenny seems like a lot for an inexperienced OC, but that's what college football is becoming.

We kind of had this debate in the hiring process.  Do you go with the safe and loyal choice or do you dive deeper into the arms race?   The folks writing the biggest checks to UO athletics wanted to go aggressive and puch further towards that elusive Natty and hired a squad of Young Guns to push this program over the top- and wrote some big checks to back it up.  So far, to your point, we just paid more for a staff of recruiters.  Hopefully, though, we see a big improvement on X's and O's and the enthusiasm of winning games with your best players.  The bigger question is what happens next?  If Lanning bolts before bringing in the hardware, do you commit even more or...?
