I have never fully invested myself in following recruiting for college football. Just not my thing. I am curious to a degree but predicting what a group of teenage boys coming out of high school will do on a football field in college is another version of "fantasy football."
I drank Cristobal's Kool-Aid for nearly 4-years until I accepted his COACHING skill set did not complement his RECRUITING achievements. He went from winning a Rose Bowl with a majority of players he inherited to losing the Alamo Bowl with a majority of players he recruited.
So I found it interesting to see this article today about osu's recruiting to this point and being 7th in the Pac-12...higher than Oregon, uw and others but still below USC.
I don't know if Jonathan Smith will out recruit Oregon over the long haul but right now he has a 4-year "head start" on being a head coach over Lanning. So I don't care who Lanning recruits; I am far more concerned about whether he can be an effective head coach.

Unconcerned with this recruiting cycle. The portal is overflowing with talent and the NIL variable in play will help to shore up the deficiencies for the short term with Oregon. I think that the roster will still be a work in progress even after Spring Ball concludes, the best guys who choose to be here will line up against the champs come Fall.
OSU will always be fair to middling in recruiting, think Smith does a decent job working the portal and is a decent developer of talent... As long as they treat him right, OSU will be in good shape...

Yep, this cycle was toast when Mario left, tho we did sign some good kids, and already more from the portal. Keeping Sean was also huge, depending on what Dye and Verdell decide. We are actually very close to the scholarship limit right now, tho I expect there will be some attrition, especially after the Spring. We really have a solid roster, and my confidence in Lanning is growing: I think we'll be fine. As for Da Beavs...I think JS is a home run hire for them, but they're still the beavs.

Misleading for sure. Avg talent ranking puts Ducks at #2 behind $C. I would take the 9 Ducks have signed over the 16 the Beavs scooped up. Not over yet, however, I think UO hits portal for most of the remaining scholarships available. I think there are only 11 or 12 left available.

It’s funny how many Miami fans apparently haven’t heard our complaints about Cristobal. I’ve read so many comments on social media that sound just like this one fro Twitter: “ Watching Justin Herbert has me thinking one thing: I can only imagine what @coach_cristobal
is gonna do with TVD. Nattys”

Well, look at their recent history. Despite playing in the ACC, which has hardly been a powerhouse conference, they've only had one ten win season (and none better) since 2003.
Let them be excited. Mario will recruit good enough players that they'll win at least 8-9 games a year and hit 10 or more occasionally. That's not what they want but it is a significant step up from what they've had.

The Beavers are currently ranked higher than the Ducks simply because they have signed more players to date. The Rivals website is a bit different than ESPN, which is posted here. The following is how many schools signed players so far.
1. Arizona 21
2. ASU 6
3. California 11
4. Colorado 21
5. Oregon 7
6. OSU 16
7. Stanford 20
8. UCLA 11
9. USC 7
10. Utah 20
11. Washington 4
12. WSU 10
This will all change come Wednesday, February 2nd, signing day.

That's hilarious! This reminds me when FSU got Willie and their fans were going wild.

With Lanning free and actually able see players in person should add to the class. It looks like the visit with Jahlil Florence went really well a couple days ago. There's still a number of good players out there including a DT from Georgia that could be in play.

Good point. It's really not a bad class considering the timing of Mario leaving. It was a down year for Mario before this all happened anyway.
