Verdell to the draft

Really wishing him luck and good health. Leaves us thin at RB right now, but coaches are after some 22 kids and a couple of portal kids..

Re: Verdell to the draft

I understand from his perspective that he's had plenty of film and success and coming back for another year risk injury. I wish him well too.

This is not good for the Ducks with Dye leaving. I would say the Ducks are in the market for a portal RB.

Re: Verdell to the draft

I figured with his history of injuries he would opt to the NFL while he is still capable.

Otherwise he had my 2 favorite runs of the Cristobal regime...

"CJ Verdell wins the game for Oregon"(against the uw)

And his 77-yard TD against the luckeyes!

Maybe Andrew Paul, who will visit this weekend. A prep kid (2022) from Texas..5'11" 200 lbs...also, thru the portal, Jarek Broussard , a transfer from Colorado. I think we'll get at least one more RB from between these two, and there are a couple other kids as well. Coaches seem to be on it...

Re: Verdell to the draft

The key number to follow through the additions and subtractions of the transfer portal is the same number for every school = 85 scholarship players per team is the limit.

So the trade-off of Dye and Verdell not returning is it now frees up 2 scholarships!

Re: Verdell to the draft

Has to be appealing to have a chance to run behind our line, with all the returnees.  The big question I'd have, though, if considering a transfer to Oregon, is do they have the offensive coaches to make this work?  But there's no doubt that our line this year will be very high quality.

I see nothing but upside for this team on the offensive side of the ball after the bipolar results LY.  Think the boosters cutting these checks to support this new staff expect high flying fireworks on offense and Lanning will coach up a solid plan for the D.

As far as the subject of this thread is concerned, I think CJ made the right call (as did Dye).  One thing I like about this board is that with regards to the players, we try to take the high road with them as long as on/off the field they are doing the right thing as young men.  Coaches, though, are fair game for a higher degree of armchair criticism...

Hey, all of us know we can't possibly block a D1 linebacker, or break a tackle, or run away from a speedy defensive back.  So we can't criticize the players.

But the coaches?  Every one of us is sure he's a genius, and coaching is just using your brain.  Obviously you and I would both be smarter than those clowns we have on the sidelines.  Obviously.

Re: Verdell to the draft

If you have not watched this 4-minute video of Nick Saban ranting on "self-absorbed fans"...it is worth it. I try not to target players in terms of criticisms for some of the reasons he notes...but I plead guilty to sometimes having the overall attitude he highlights. I definitely could express a little more gratitude at times.
