Wilner column without a paywall! 🥳

I have always liked Jon Wilner. I don't think there is a journalist with a more thorough knowledge and understanding of the Pac-12 than Wilner on just about any topic.

However I have always found it very difficult to find his columns without being a subscriber...until last night when I accidentally stumbled across ksl.com out of Utah that posts his columns on its website.

Here are his thoughts on the job security of each of the MBB head coaches in the Pac-12...and typical Wilner, lots of information and details you just don't read about from other journalists.

For example, I had no idea Cal's MBB team has no dedicated practice court!

Wish we had Wilner instead of the bald clown we have at OregonLive.
Thanks for the link.

Agree 100% with your assessment of Wilner.  Nobody get all their facts right every time but he's pretty close.  Don't always agree with his opinions, but always respect them because he knows what he's talking about.  He's one of those guys you read that you say, "Man, I'd like to take this guy to dinner sometime just to talk to him."  Of course, in person he might be a jerk but he doesn't come across that way at all.

Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the free link for Jon Wilner.  I really enjoy reading his articles.  Being retired, I'm somewhat of a tightwad when it comes to paying to read sports articles.  Having said that, I just spend $1,000 for five nights at Lake Tahoe for a summer family reunion.  Go figure.  After the California defeat, I have lost interest in how far the Ducks might go in the NCAA/NIT tournament. With the WSU Cougars,  It's the first game of the season that I haven't watched.  Live by the three, die by the three. And for you baseball fans, the Ducks season starts tomorrow in San Diego.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes Wilner is a RARITY these days in print and broadcast journalism. He keeps the focus primarily on subject matter.

If you notice, he doesn't write using "I" but instead it is in the context of "We" as in the "Hotline"...so you always feel like a team is giving you the information and we the readers are part of the team!

Sure there are some semantics involved but it is a noticeable when "I" permeates content and it creates a different vibe.

Ironically, I find Canzano's podcasts much better than his written material...he actually interviws his guests very well in my opinion. He rarely makes his opinions the most important information.

But written content...

Canzano(and many others): "I think Oregon needs..."

Wilner: We are wondering if Oregon may be in a situation where it is time..."

That was driving me NUTS! I kept yelling at my TV, "WTF?!" No one was hitting from deep, yet they kept shooting it from there. Reminded me of  P Pritchard's junior year. But he played with so much more maturity during his senior year. The women did the same against the beebers, thank goodness they we played from inside-out last night against the bruins.

What an extreme bummer that S Ionescu, R Hebard, and Pritchard weren't able to finish off their senior year playing in March Maddness.
