How do you explain Will Richardson playing 31 minutes; taking a TOTAL of 3 FG attempts (missing all of them) and going scoreless?!? Team leader? Best player on the team? Sounds like he is sulking.
There is something going on with this team and has been for awhile now. It is not just about Richardson either.
While osu was quick to elevate Wayne Tinkle to John Wooden status based on playing well for 2 weeks last year and reward him with a 6-year contract extension...FYI he started at osu for the 2014-15 season and is now 40 games BELOW .500 in conference play...40 games!...
I am not going to do the opposite and throw Altman under the bus for one below expectations season or what appears will be a season ending soon. Some of it is on him but not all of it.
He is correct in noting that Oregon will need to do something "special" now.

There is a systemic problem with NCAA basketball. Oregon basketball is a microcosm of this problem. No longer does a coach and staff build a program and develop players at the highest level of competition. Instead, most players arrive to a program already "developed" and ready to showcase their skills with the coach they think is a good "fit" for them.
If the "fit" isn't there, they transfer. If they are allowed to showcase their talents, they declare for the draft if their respective camps decide that to be the best choice.
This is why March Madness has so many more "upsets" by mid-majors than ever before. Mid-major programs actually recruit and develop players not considered elite individual talents and coach them into highly functional teams.
At some point with the NIL deals now in motion so guys can get paid, maybe the NCAA will adopt the baseball rule for college basketball players- commit to college with three years of pro ineligibility or simply go pro in a developmental league after HS.
Regarding Oregon's current team, Altman could not cobble together a group of guys who could consistently play together as a team this season. He is doing the best he can in a system designed for something else...

Amen! This year, Dana just couldn't get these guys to play as a team. Too much one on one IMO. Young is a major ball hog. I'm hopeful this pushes Dana to try and build teams with talented HS players, tho he sure has had a lot of success with transfers in the past. The times are changing with NIL being a big part of that.
