It sure sounded like he was implying The O pulled the trigger. Wouldn’t be surprised if a group of suits decided to get someone younger and edgier for half the salary, but who knows?

Pretty sure we know at noon today when he hits the airwaves...
Can take or leave him with regards to his on-air persona (tries toooooo hard to be cool and hip), he is nice enough, though, in person as he complemented me out of the blue once at a bar about my hair (which is a Yul Brynner cut, too)... Had Anna over at our house a few years ago for a tv news story she ran on my wife's business, also a very gracious person away from the airwaves.I have the same haircut!

Having not listened in yesterday to his show and only reading this thread, I'll fall in the "O-Live fired him" camp. Does not sound like a contract issue, because as earlier stated, he would have known his time was up and wrote a farewell column as his time elapsed.
Rather than get lost on the weeds on this, it simply sounds as if he is changing his brand access to the airwaves along with a self-published newsletter/column. He still has media credentials, so "access" is not an issue for him. What remains to be seen is if he decides to set up a paywall to access his content at some point. Also, he is now going up against Isaac and Suke, will be interesting how that shakes out...

What is interesting re all the attacks and accusations about Canzano means one thing...you had to read and / or listen to him in order to have those opinions! 😲🤔😂
Otherwise most of the venom directed at Canzano I would use to describe all the fan boy websites and wannabe "sports journalists" who write for them that I have seen over the years...people who have no access to who they write about and do no research but think they have some unique insight.

I'm happy that he's no longer with Oregonian/OregonLive. I hope Oregonian/OregonLive give J Crepea and A Nemec a bump, and post more Wilner articles.

good riddance.
cheap, slimy hustler from Day 1. no respect for professional ethics, confidentiality, or privacy. every story he ever wrote was about . . . John Canzano. his resume ('when I covered Jerry Tark . . . '). his gonnegtions ('an NFL GM told me that . . . '). his hyper-moral crusades against The Power on behalf of the wronged (Brenda Tracy, Jane Doe). how he 'felt' about the latest 'defining moment' in sports.
all intended to do one thing--build his 'brand' and hawk it multi-channel.
my biggest gripe over the years was that he took up space on airplanes and in hotels when The O could have sent a real reporter to a Rose Bowl or Final Four or CWS to write real stories--rather than, say, a sidetrip to Boys Town or a 'look-who-I-know' reminiscence w a b-ball coach who retired 15 years earlier.
my bet is he finally overstepped the boundaries once too often--either with a couple of really heavyweight influencers, or a pure accumulation of years of misbehavior that finally reached critical mass. throwing my O today toward Ms Bottomly (UO J-School, few years before me) for finally kicking this hobo off the train.
He sure was blowing in the wind on Coach Altman over the years, wasn't he?good writer with questionable ethics and instincts. The attack jobs on Bellotti always bugged me...
