Columnist attends UCLA and USC practices...shreds Kelly
Just one person's opinion but at least he went to practices for both teams to frame his opinions and he does take some fair shots at Kelly.
Interesting how Riley is starting everyone with a plain cardinal colored helmet and you have to earn a "gold plated" emblem.
Alas, it is only April with a LONG WAY TO GO to September.

Chip has really never recaptured what he had here, but man, those years were a blast. Lotta fans were edgy due to his lack of HC experience and then we lost at Boise..and the Punch..but things turned out pretty damn good.
No surprise Riley has the media's attention: he's a plenty successful HC. U$C will be tough, and that makes the league stronger. Go Ducks!

'J Brady' McCullough began his career at the LA Times as the SC beat reporter, trailing in his wake a fellowship from Harvard and long list of national writing awards, relentlessly touted on his behind-the-byline bio.
how dare Chip Kelly not take the bait, but instead deftly sidestep 'J Brady's unsubtle invite to an inflammatory tabloid headline. hasn't Chip read 'J Brady's resume? does Chip know who he's dealing with here?
'J Brady' is bald, too. this is starting to feel a bit familiar. wonder if 'J Brady' has a radio show?

I haven't read any notable "great job Chip" articles in the past few years that I can recall...not about specific games(beating USC) but rather about the overall program itself.
UCLA did not sign up for Kelly's current W-L record going into his 5th year as head coach. I know I thought he would do much better.
Especially in LA but in general he is fair game at this point from just about any perspective and IF Riley has instant success...the anti-Kelly venom will only intensify.

The tone of this column reminds me of the days when our own local columnist tore the Duck Men’s Basketball Coach a new one s few years ago among a questionable series of events and accusations. Unsure what bone he has to pick with Kelly, but Kelly clearly has seen this movie before and has no choice but to take a defense posture in answering stupid questions.
I’m a fan of Kelly and I hope he can own LA….

Don't confuse one writer with "big city media." The LA media is shredding the Lakers...Google it. Noted LA Times columnist Bill Plaschke advocated for both Helton and Kelly to be fired last season. He blistered the Lakers just 2 days ago. Oregon fans don't like Canzano...he uses a pillow to attack people while LA media uses sledge hammers.
Go read the Boston media if the Red Sox lose a home series against the Yankees.
I am assuming Chip Kelly has a tougher skin from his time in Philadelphia and San Francisco... particularly the former and what has transpired during his time at UCLA... but he cannot hide behind massive underachievement in virtually every aspect of his program including 1 winning season and below .500 in both overall and conference play...in 4 seasons! Building a winning program?
I wanted him to succeed; predicted he would; was looking forward to him making the Pac-12 more relevant...but I am not going to defend him from the LA media launching an attack. He has earned it in the reality of "big city media" in my opinion.
