Everyone is an "undrafted free agent"

It is VERY DIFFICULT to get drafted let alone make an NFL team. As reported individually by OLive...

Verone McKinley III - Dolphins
CJ Verdell - Colts
Anthony Brown - Ravens
Devon William - Ravens

All signed on with teams as "undrafted free agents." Good luck!

Re: Everyone is an "undrafted free agent"

6th-7th round picks have a 30-35% chance to make the team.

It’s disappointing to see CJ drop. Wasn’t he projected to be a mid-round pick before being injured?

Unfortunately a lot of agents and supposed experts aren’t honest with players chances.

A lot of players stayed in college this draft. The speculation being that NIL might motivate players to stay. I think a lot of Ducks on the list should’ve stayed and made a few dollars  with having another to improve their stock.

Re: Everyone is an "undrafted free agent"

Devon Williams was the 40th rated prospect in his class.  Of course, his college career was fragmented.

Mykael Wright was the 41st rated in his class.

Thibodeaux was first.

How many Ducks in the last 4-5 years have been drafted higher than their high school rankings?  How many lower?  Obviously, HS rankings are flawed predictors of pro potential.  But with all the great talent we've recruited, we haven't developed them.

That's one reason why I said that Lanning would be a home run hire back when it was just a rumor.  I've been dying to see us actually develop players.  He had 5 of his players in the first round.  He's proven he can develop defensive players.  So has Lupoi.

Maybe we'll actually develop offensive players as well.  That would be totally awesome.  But we haven't even been developing players on either side of the ball, as near as I can tell.  To me, this draft tells that story.  I'm not saying the UDFAs from Oregon should have been drafted.  But I am saying that when you recruit top 20 classes every year, you should have more than one player drafted, and if you don't, you aren't developing the talent you have.  If we at least start developing defensive players, that's going to be an improvement.

Re: Everyone is an "undrafted free agent"

Good point re development of players. Especially because year-in year-out Oregon will not consistently recruit better than Alabama, the luckeyes and others. Winning the recruiting battle in the Pac-12 has proven what?

Jonathan Smith has done a nice job, year by year improving the team; developing players, etc with a thimble full of talent compared to Oregon.

As per Lanning...he was an assistant coach on a great team...just like Cristobal was at Alabama. Being the head coach is a whole other dynamic and since he has never held that position at any level let alone during games...and because I drank Cristobal's Kool-Aid for 4-years...a guy learning on the job doesn't excite me at all(least experienced head coach in the Pac-12)...so I am waiting to see if he can COACH...not just recruit or even develop players...but game and clock management, play calling and so on.
