long and thoughtful piece in NYT today (got a scrip, but I think you can read five for free). 2022 marks 50 years of Nike. good stuff about Uncle Phil, the Portland State graphic designer who created the Swoosh, and other local characters. no mention of Wieden+Kennedy, nor the choice by Uncle Phil & his brain-trust to go local for advertising, instead of a big-time NYC or LA agency. W+K had as much to do w Nike becoming a cultural pillar as anyone.
lots of good historical pics, too. did not know that Farrah Fawcett was a Nike skateboard athlete.
