former Fox Sports president breaks down the numbers

https://www.johncanzano.com/p/canzano-pac-12-gut-punch-comes-with

This is a good good even if you don't like JC since it's all about the former Fox Sports president breaking down the numbers. I didn't care for JC's last article on PK saving the conference, but this is a good one.

From a numbers standpoint the math doesn't seem to break down well for the Ducks and UW to join and get a full payout.

He also gives some practical ideas of how PK good broker a deal. I didn't realize that PK has ties to ESPN and not Fox.

More fuel to add to the fire on disgust over Larry Scott. He declined ESPN's interest in a new deal in 2018, which would've kept USC and other teams from bolting until 2032.

Most of the blame falls on the University presidents imo. They were the ones believing Scotts BS. We've been snookered for sure. Creating another conference with the PAC and Big 12 remnants, with a couple MWC teams thrown in, is looking more likely now, but all we can do is wait and see.

Good point on the university presidents. Larry seemed to have a lot of sway for some reason with them.

The waiting game continues and it has me on edge. This is a lot different than say the coaching search when MC left.

Hopefully Notre Dame will make a decision soon, which should be the next domino to fall. I saw GK and the B12 are suppose to be meeting Tuesday. I'm not expecting Notre Dame to make a decision over the holiday so hopefully they will Tuesday.

It's amazing how the LA departure was kept secret.

Re: former Fox Sports president breaks down the numbers

the Canned One does much better when he sticks to facts, let's other people speak, tells us who they are, and doesn't play the cutout game.

seem to be two major sticking points to UO and another Pac-10 school (prob UW) joining the expanded B1G:
UO/UW don't bring the TV markets and projected income that would match their share of conf revenue if that revenue were distributed equally among all members, &
FoxSports wants an SC-tOSU or a BruCru-Michigan ratings-monster damn-near every year; not once every four years in a 20-team super conf with a left-coast pod.

so B1G agrees to accept Ducks & Huskies as junior partners for a specified time period. Uncle Phil and a group of investors establish a fund to make up the difference, coming or going. not unlike the Legacy Fund that Uncle Phil created to fill-in attendance-based revenue shortfalls for the newly build Matthew Knight Arena and pay the bills. hmmmmmm.

here's a good article on the Notre Dame piece of the puzzle. sounds like the Irish have a TV contract w NBC that runs through 2025. and the ESPN contract with the ACC has language that obligates ND to join the ACC--if it joins any conf--until 2036.

UO is a national brand.  We don't need to bring a TV market.  That's just a negotiating ploy.  Notre Dame doesn't add a TV market, either.  They are obviously a bigger national brand than we are though that probably wasn't the case during the Chip years.

That's part of the reason Larry Scott was such a disaster.  It was barely possible for people outside the PAC footprint to even watch the Ducks, a lot of times, with their stupid PAC12 network.  And unlike a lot of SEC / ACC games, the Ducks couldn't be put on YouTube.  Clemson and most of the SEC were building their national brand by getting their games (after the fact) out on YouTube so people could watch them and become fans.  Instead of building our fanbase, we were hiding our product.  Insanity.

Re: former Fox Sports president breaks down the numbers

I have found since Canzano went solo he has a much more positive engaging vibe...he interacts a lot with people who comment...most likely due to trying to build his brand.

Like him or hate him, he has far more contacts / connections than any other media person IN Oregon.

The RG is pathetic(reflection of a local newspaper being bought out by a national company) and the fan boy websites are...well, don't get me started! 😂

Otherwise this is an interesting article and as we realize on a daily basis, the situation remains VERY FLUID...plus remember, we still have 2 more years of USC and UCLA in the Pac-12!🤔
