Best school at each position

A good read with Oregon being noted in a couple of areas. Criteria seems fair.

What stands out for me is...

1) The best teams DEVELOP the talent they recruit.

2) Mario Cristobal did a lousy job at developing the talent he recruited. Of course I have an Oregon bias but really, for all the great recruiting classes at Oregon under Cristobal, Oregon should have a higher profile in these rankings.

3) This is really about the elite...as in like 99%(?) of college football teams are not in the discussion at all...yet there are plenty of those programs who play good football.

Re: Best school at each position

It still amazes me how many national media personalities don't have a clue about MC's development. A couple of weeks ago I was driving and couldn't find anything better to listen to than The Herd. Colin Cowherd was doing his Colin right, Colin wrong segment where he critiques his past predictions. He decided to count his prediction of how great MC is for Miami as a " Colin right" already! Based nothing more than some quote MC said about playing hard and his recruiting so far. The recruiting probably will give them a boost, but the fans and some guys like Colin don't seem to have a clue about him.

I would love to see some better development particularly at the QB position. We should get to see the backups some more I would think. I'm assuming DL and Kenny won't leave the starting QB in a blowout out there to run the ball and take sacks late in the 4th.

Right now MC is the second coming to Canes fans, and maybe so..we'll see what they're saying in a couple of years; or when he calls a timeout before the game starts, or as you say, just leave AB in, no matter what

Re: Best school at each position

Thanks for the posts and thoughts, just coming back up for air after mourning Olivia...

Oregon's recent success still resides on the shoulders of the giants who came before- Bellotti, Aliotti, Campbell, Pellum and Greatwood.  These were guys who understood football, understood young men, understood Eugene, and understood the value of exceeding expectations.  From Kelly to Cristobal, there was a dropoff in these ingredients that built the program up or a lack of them at time altogether.  Lanning to me so far appears to be old school in his approach to the game as well as life, hope that translates to a winning "progrum."

Regarding MC, he is absolutely what Miami needed if they ever wanted to become relevant again.  With both FSU and UF in a down cycle, this is the time to "own" the state and grab that talent and cheerlead the efforts to build a UM dedicated stadium.  I'm happy he got his dream job, but I cannot help but note how fast FSU turned on the fraudulent Taggart...

Re: Best school at each position

I thought Cristobal was "old school" as in power football between the tackles.

He tried to change the culture at Oregon and at least for me, that reality got buried with all the hype about recruiting. In the "process" of doing that, among other things, he killed the vibe at Autzen.

The final straw for me was when I read prior to the first beat down by Utah, the Ducks had a TOTAL of 5 pass plays of 40+ yards for the ENTIRE SEASON! Oregon used to get that within a game or two.

I want the "old Oregon" culture of many years...potent running game; ability to pass all over the field; Autzen rocking; QB who makes plays with his feet and arm; a team who doesn't only play to the level of the opponent...oh and a head coach who knows how to manage a game, the clock and roster.
