Re: 10 question the Ducks have to answer

I am not a Zachary Neel fan(don't like fan boy sites in general) and this article is an example why...not necessarily because of his 10 items but rather some of his comments...

1) He hasn't seen 95%+ of Fall Camp...unless Lanning made exceptions for him. These guys get 15 minutes at the start of practice and that's it. Yet they write like they see a lot more. Any of us could do the same...read Moseley's report; watch video interviews and write an article with predictions.

2) I don't consider WSU, Cal, UW or OSU to be "bad teams"...of those games only the UW is in Eugene... historically Oregon has had trouble in...Pullman, Berkeley and Corvallis at different times. All Neel had to write was Oregon needs to beat teams it should without listing teams... especially before a game has been played(fan boy website nonsense)

3) I never cease to be amazed at how, and this would be on my Top 10 list...people don't consider COACHING to be factor?

For me with Lanning being a first-time ever head coach...how will Lanning manage games, the roster, team not playing well and so on. How can that not be on a list?(especially after what we endured with Process Cristobal)?

Lanning is the least experienced head coach in the entire Pac-12 and that isn't a "question" coming into the season???

Honestly, everyone who posts here is a better writer than Neel!

Go Ducks!

Re: 10 question the Ducks have to answer

comments from the readers are worth more than the body of the story. Experience. Cohesion. Coaching.

it's called 'Kentucky Basketball Syndrome'. recruit the finest talent and start over each season with a bunch of unacquainted five-stars who are leaving in 1-2 years. roll out the ball and let 'em play (so as to enhance their eventual draft status). earn a #2 seed after the SEC regular season, and then get disappeared early in The Dance by a better-coached team of 4-5 year college players.

Ducks have the personnel. I love the talent, experience, and cohesion of our O-line--the engine that drives the bus. no excuse for any Duck QB, RB, or WR who can't deliver; plug in someone else. I'm hopeful Cam Mc or P Herbs or another TE can stay healthy. that position is crucial to the success of the O-line and the UO offense (Husky Stadium, 2019). defense has loads of talent and playmakers. but a good O Coord can find any weak spot. our secondary is thin and untested; need to avoid injuries and learn how to recognize, play together, and trust one another.

BYU game third week of the season will be a major metric. Ducks have more talent; BYU has more 4-5 (or 6-7 w mission) year players who are well coached and execute their offensive system (kinda like Utah). how will the coaching staff and this team develop in the first month of the season? because the important games start stacking in late Oct & Nov: UCLA, @Cal, UW & Utes (in Autzen), and a maybe-improving Beavis in Beandip.

I agree w the author's conclusion: 9-3 and a sniff at the P-12 Championship Game are within reach. I am glad we have Lanning, w his defensive orientation, and Dillingham. I guess I'll have to take Tosh, too. Let's get this show on the road!

Re: 10 question the Ducks have to answer

I will say that I think Zachary Neel is improving.  He writes fewer plain stupid things than he used to.  He got 10 of the top 15 questions, probably.  There's not a question on there that is really out of place, IMO.

But i do agree with DR that he's missed a couple really important ones.  Coaching mistakes are likely to hurt this team this year.  I'm willing to live with that if the coaches learn from their mistakes and develop.  But being willing to live with it is not at all the same as leaving it off of a top 10 questions list.
