Ashford played for Auburn

Well well well... Robby Ashford got to play for Auburn in a real game!

Wait, there is more...he was inserted into the game ...easy now because this is unheard of at Oregon.... midway through the 3rd quarter after the starting QB TJ Finley through his SECOND INTERCEPTION against powerful Mercer! Whoa...what an incredible high risk decision by the head coach.

The score differential at the time? Auburn was ahead by 4 possessions. Yes...almost exactly the same differential at the same time in the game when Oregon trailed Georgia.

I know...take a step back, collect yourselves...calm down...Oregon's backup backup backup QB from last season played AND he generated 100 passing yards(4 for 7) and 68 rushing yards(on 6 carries).

I wonder what his communications are like with Thompson and Butterfield?

That's great for Robby..always thought he was the best if you wanted a dual threat. I was surprised when he left because I thought baseball was his thing. Being ahead it's easier to put in kids than when you're trailing. Also, Ducks played probably the best team in FBS, so a bit different. Still, down by that much and with Georgia playing backups, I thought it wouldn't have hurt to give TT a series. Tough to develope kids if they never see the field.

I don't see it that way at all. To me it is about what is happening in the game itself.

Being down 4 possessions with a 56 to 28 score suggests more of a defensive problem. Being down 28-3 / 35-3 / 42-3 suggests an inability to score a single TD.

Similar in terms of the level of the opponent...who cares whether it is Georgia or Mercer? You are getting your a** stomped(or vice versa)...try something else.

Lincoln Riley put true freshman with zero experience Caleb Williams in the middle of the game against rival Texas last year...replacing a preseason Heisman candidate Spencer Rattler...OU was 3 TD's behind and Williams lead them to a win.

I just don't understand when and why Oregon has culturally become such a chicken s*** program in terms of playing different QB's???

Plus the Georgia game means NOTHING in terms of being able to play in the Pac-12 Championship Game...as in only conference games matter.

I'm with DR here.  You have what you think you have in practice, you know better what you have at full game speed, even against backups.

Re: Ashford played for Auburn

This is what Ashford said after the game...

"I just looked at it as I got an opportunity to play ball. And that is all I wanted and asked for."

He seemingly didn't care he had to wait until more than half the game had been played and outcome was all but decided; that the opponent was "just" Mercer; that he most likely was put in the game to manage it vs piling up more points; that he was probably playing with more backups than starters...he simply wanted to PLAY.

Re: Ashford played for Auburn

I would imagine the coaches want Bo out there early in the season as much as possible to get him game reps with the ones. I too would have liked to see TT get a couple of series late, but hoping for an Arkansas State type of game against the Eagles, where Ty and Jay can split the second half.
I'm also hoping that's not too optimistic..the Eagles will be fired up.

Re: Ashford played for Auburn

DL is being tight lipped on whether he'll play anyone else at QB if they get way ahead today.

It's possible Ty and Jay are just simply not doing well enough especially since this another new coaching staff that has elected to not put them in.

My reasoning for putting someone else in during last weeks blowout is for experience and to see what you have in a game situation. Some players step it up during actuel games.

Besides that if you really think your starter is way better you should pull them out so they don't get hurt in a meaningless game.

It was interesting that a number of RB's got in last week even if it was just for 2 carries. Dollars was about the only back that got a lot of looks.

The offensive line wasn't being rotated last week, which was surprising. I know there was a few injuries and all, but with the perceived depth I thought we'd see more of a rotation.

Nix was also the leading rusher in terms of carries and yards(not average. He had the same number of carries(8) as Dollars and Cardwell had combined...4 each. 😡

I am hoping Lanning and Dillingham significantly improves their approach to the offense this week🙏
