Seven McGee

I'm disappointed to see that Seven McGee is hitting the transfer portal.  Although he played in every game in his two years with the team, except this latest game, not being the go-to-guy had the proverbial writing on the wall.  Division 1 football programs have 85 scholarships and can take 70 players on road trips.  Being a highly rated 4**** prospect and not on the travel roster tells me that his time with the Ducks came to an end. Hope he gets the playing time he is looking for at another school.

Yeah, I'm sorry it didn't work out for him. Wishing him well wherever he winds up..

Re: Seven McGee

I don't think anyone predicted or assumed the expected starters in the offensive backfield for 2022 season would all be backups and replaced by transfers(Nix, Irving, Whittington) and a recruit(James) with a new head coach.

Yet that is exactly what has happened with McGee, Dollars, Cardwell, Thompson and Butterfield.

Maybe Cardwell's situation would be different had he not been injured but the reality is none of them are playing impactful minutes.

I don't envy Lanning having to "recruit" these guys to stay with the program, except of course now McGee.

It feels like they were recruited for Cristobal's smash mouth 1950's offense but that is not what Lanning runs.

Re: Seven McGee

Guy is an odd man out with a new staff and transfers in.  He dreamed of being a Duck, committed early and showed up to play.  But in a sea of talented players it appears others rose higher on the depth chart now that a good sample size is in the books.  Would have to think that DL had a hard discussion with him but better honesty then dragging something out that could turn toxic.  Best to Seven as he will find a spot no worries…
