Re: oliveducks Needs Your Help

Two quick observations:

1) A lot of people claim they want to leave Twitter and need a new place to discuss Ducks, so that would be a good place to spread the word.

2) The standard way to increase comments is to ask an intriguing question people will feel compelled to answer, instead of just posting a link.

That's a good idea to spread the word on Twitter. Are you up for posting the site on their? I'll find some time to in the next few day to look into making some post. I've never used the site so I'm not sure how much traction my Tweets will get.

Re: oliveducks Needs Your Help

What link or info do we share for someone to join our group?

I just put a Tweet button on the top and bottom of our site to make a Tweet and share the site. You have to be in desktop mode.

For FaceBook I put the small share bottom at the top of each topic to share their.

It's really up to you how you want want to present the site. I've never made a Tweet in my life and am under the impression they're usually shorter in length. So really whatever you think is best based on the platform.

Thanks for helping and let me know if either share buttons do or don't work. I just got a quick break at work and put this up. It looks like it works and I'll troubleshoot later if it doesn't.

Re: oliveducks Needs Your Help

Completely new guy here. Convert from PuddleHuddle, which sounds like it is about to go buh-bye.  Will take some time to figure this format out. If I can handle that, I’ll contribute!  Not an expert on football, but enjoy the banter and opinion threads. No FD or fanboy format fan here I can attest. Say that three times fast.

Never been a Facebook, Twitter or Instagramer type, so if this site ultimately heads there, I won’t follow. The only other blog I “view” is ATQ, as they have a couple of really good writers there, plus some of the other PAC schools SBNation sites (reading the meltdown after games is pretty amusing) but their posting is a bit off-putting to me. A bit Animal House meets Millennial. 😏

The only other tidbit I’ll add to my online CV for now is I’m an oldschool football fan, class 1980. So I don’t have much patience for not showing patience. And that sentence should give you all sorts of clues for future posts.

All that matters is Duck Football! 🦆🏈🦆🏈

LOL a personal Tweet of mine would die a natural death. I mostly read other people’s stuff, so I will watch for opportunities to share the info. naturally, so I’m not just spamming everyone.

I agree with the name change in the app and desktop version. How does "All About Oregon Ducks" sound?

I just switched this and am open to changing it to something else.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone. I'll reply more later as I have to get back to work about the site status and all. To get to the point I have no desire to switch to FB or another platform immediatly. The FB option is not one I'm personally interested in as much just because I'm not a huge fan of being on FB for various reasons.

Happy Halloween and Go Ducks 🎃

Just thought of something: The web address begins with "olive," and though I know it refers to the Olive Duck migration after they shut down the comments section, newbies won't know that, and I think a LOT of people will be turned off when they see it in the link posted on Twitter or other social media.

It conveys the opposite of what this site is: An independent forum for true Duck fans to form their own discussions with a minimum of moderation. No content, no agenda, no corporate BS.

We can include a brief description of what the site really is, but odds are people quickly scrolling through comments will assume it's corporate spam and dismiss it outright.

In the haste to throw up a forum the site url was a major misstep. I agree it's a lousy name.

Not everyone is going to analyze the address or put much thought into so it very well might not be a dealbreaker for everyone.

I'm going to reach out to Boardhost and ask for a new url with a redirect from this address. There's nothing listed about this being something you can do so it might be a dead end. I'll reach out to them and see what they have to say.

It's not lousy - it definitely made it easy for me to remember! The O legal dept. might not look too kindly on it, though.

A number of those sound really good to me. Thanks for the suggestions.

I have the request in so I'll report back when I hear anything.

Re: oliveducks Needs Your Help

Branding is one of things that not many people think of. Until they one day realize some names work, and others just don’t. Many a story of failed products, efforts, launches, etc. due to poor branding. If we can, I think it should change. This site really isn’t “all about” Oregon Ducks. It’s a small and passionate group of fans that enjoy talking Duck sports. (To that end I think we need folders or sub-headings for different sports. Maybe they get started as interest gains. I can think of basketball and baseball to start). If we want this thing to grow, melding in baseball with football might be a tough slog)

Here’s the new guy blathering on!

I like several of your first pass list. Thanks for taking a stab at it. Initially I like “House of Ducks” and “The Duck Room”.  Gotta have Ducks in the name, both House and Room have an intimate and informal feel of smaller size to them. I suppose you could substitute Quack for Duck as well. I have an aversion to Webfoot from the horrible throwback uni’s we wore years ago.

I’ll leave it at that until we know if it’s even possible.

LOL I don’t think many people like Webfoot, which is probably why a quick search shows no one is already using it!
