I have always liked David Hale for his comparative writing. In this case TCU who could do practically nothing on offense yet still won whereas Oregon with some 600 yards in total offense lost.
And it is interesting how he points to the blown opportunities (Nix fumble at the goal line as one example) as reasons Oregon lost to uw.
I do think he makes valid arguments which are getting overlooked.
At this point, we know Oregon is not going to win with their defense...so miscues by the offense become magnified.

Good article. We've known all season our defense was bad, and our O would have to carry us to a win. I thought that fumble was a direct result of Dilly getting too cute. Why try and use trickery there: line up and play smash mouth football. Again, at the 3rd down situation, washington called a time out when they saw Bo in an empty backfield, but when play resumed, Bo ran the exact same play anyway. Why take your stud RBs off the field and signal to everybody what you're going to do?
Dilly has had issues with play calling in the RZ all year, and this time it bit us. Gotta regroup and learn..can't let washington beat us twice..

I've been saying for a while that our defense is not good enough to win us a game if we ever needed them to. And this game, sadly, it came to fruition.
An offense will usually always have a bad game, a game with several turnovers or just a weird game where bounces don't go your way. (Or bonehead coaching maneuvers!!) Knowing your D will never have your back puts enormous pressure on the offense. Our defense is what it is. I really don't expect any more improvement this year, which really makes me question the Lupoi/Lanning duo. Perhaps they are not compatible? Not on same page? Will be interesting to see if Lanning might make a change after this season.
Well, let us all pray that Nix is healthy, we got our "bad" game out of the way and we win out and go Rose Bowling.

Part of being a good head coach is making decisions that don't put your team's vulnerability at UNNECESSARY risk i.e. what head coach whose team has had a rough first-half, ties the score at 10-all with 4 minutes remaining and then tries an onside kick giving the opponent a 1st and 10 at the 50-yard line which instantly puts the defense in trouble?
Especially when your team will get the ball to start the second-half?
That kind of nonsense is what you try in early season non-conference games against Portland State.
I am most disappointed that Lanning, Dillingham and Lupoi in their first UO vs uw game didn't grasp the importance of it all.

I totally agree with the notion that the offensive mistakes are getting magnified since there hasn't been much to complain about and they keep getting wins.
With the way the defense wasn't improving I still thought it might be possible to keep winning in the Pac. An SEC team with a legit defense seemed like another loss for sure and a reason the Ducks maybe shouldn't be in the playoffs this year and now won't of course.
When a team keeps winning only so many questions and fingers are pointed. Naturally a game lost so close with numerous questionable calls begs for a lot of finger pointing.
To me it's more questions about the defensive issues being more of a Lupoi vs Lanning or joint problem combined with the players they have.
How would the defense look this year with last year's coaches? As I mentioned before this season our defense wasn't that great last year despite including a number of star players.
DL is owning up to the mistakes and he's corrected a lot of problems this season minus some of the defensive issues. Overall the coaching staff has exceeded my expectations I'm not going to throw them under the bus over one loss like this. If MC was still around I don't think there's anyway we beat UCLA and probably not WSU or BYU. The other games might have been close and there could of even been more losses.
If the Utes put up another several hundred passing yards and the offense takes a bunch of horrible gambles I'll be a lot more inclined to be upset with the coaches. Of course if Bo is a scratch I don't think any combination of all-star coaching greats that can get a W next week with what we've seen from Ty.
