"This is a program pillar victory. It's a win that will resonate with the program's roster and staff as an example of what can happen if a team works together."“We talked about playing this game with an uncommon purpose. We wanted to play this game for something bigger than just us," said Lanning. "This game was about the seniors taking the field for the last time; this game was about Spencer Webb. This game was about getting the ultimate team to win and really not worrying about the opinions of others. Sometimes I think our best shows up when everyone else doubts us, which we certainly take note.”

That's awesome!
However, I can't help but think how the horrible trick play call could've costt us the game. That would've been a defining moment too.Thank God it worked out in the end. Honestly that was just one of the weirdest Duck games all around I've seen in a while.
Hate to be a Debbie downer, cause I'm SUPER proud of this team/coaches, but that play troubles me deeply. I don't even know how to process it honestly. It puts a bit of doubt in my mind about this staff going forward, of which I had none two weeks ago.
PLEASE PLEASE learn from this Dan Lanning and Kenny Dillingham.

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." - Mike Tyson
Oregon has been punched in the mouth on consecutive weeks with mixed results including 1 win and 1 loss.
What is encouraging about the win over Utah is how the defense responded from the previous week. Also Oregon proved to itself it can win with a hobbled QB and when the strength of their offense was held in check i.e. 59 total yards rushing.
I actually have more confidence in the PLAYERS at the moment than the COACHES. A little semantics for sure as they go together but in consecutive games the head coach / offensive coordinator have made HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE decisions in precarious situations. Just didn't make sense and that is not only me or people on this platform....but all across the landscape i.e. "What were they thinking?"
I believe the players are very determined and focused. Hopefully the coaches won't hinder them in the osu game.
On a side note, I read where Lanning used his same theme from last week about wishing he could have "certain moments back"...come on coach...that is amateur stuff...it is a given in nearly every game, win or lose.
All that said, looking at the stats for the Miami v Clemson game and seeing Cristobal "leading" his team to 10 points and 98 TOTAL YARDS for the game...I feel better now!

How about a brief math quiz. When does 2 + 2 not equal 4? When it equals 1L and 1W. Let me expand.
In the UW game, there were two key coaching calls. Both resulted in failure. The trick “all far right then rush to the middle” resulting in a botched 2nd down. Nix gets hurt on 3rd down and we have to kick a FG. A touchdown would have all but sealed the game. Then going for a 4th and 1 with our backup QB Ty. Nix was jumping up and down next to Lanning to get in, but Lanning didn’t call a time out to rethink. RB slips, UW kicks the winning FG and we don’t have enough time with a limited Nix to counter. 2 = 1L
Let’s move on to Utah. Two more key calls. Coming out of the half, Lanning elects to put in Ty. Call a play that while it technically is not a trick play, certainly takes great timing and communication to pull off. With our backup QB no less. Disaster. Changes momentum and quickly the game is tied. Then after a huge deep throw by Nix, putting us near the Ute 30, a hash to far sideline throw is called. Another disaster with a pick. However this time 2 = 1W.
The same? Poor calls from the booth or the sideline. The difference? The defense came up with new-found moxie to save the day in the Ute game.
I’ll accept players making mistakes in-game as the pace is fast and emotions high. I have a harder time accepting coaches making bad calls when experience and analytics say otherwise. It’s just simple math.

Yes. And being in control at 17-3 and just stopping Utah, it's such a dereliction of duty to call that play at our own 13. They were instantly right back in game and stole all momentum back.
But like you said, the defense saved the day. Never thought I'd say that this year. Looks like the defense improved a lot this week and THAT could end up being another Defining Moment for this team.
Let's hope it's a Defining Moment for Lanning and Dilly as well.

Good points...the theme which occurred to me from the comments is both the uw and Utah games had "Lanning issues" wrapped around halftime!?
Against the uw it was the onside kick after Oregon had just tied the game at 10-10.
Against Utah it was coming out of the halftime with Oregon holding a 17-3 lead. They force Utah to punt after 5 plays and 1:40 to start the second half...then comes the reverse play 🤮
Coach Lanning...2 games in a row you completely misread momentum going into and out of halftime. Stop trying to trick opponents within this time frame...completely unnecessary.
