Seems quite a few Duck fans on message boards are questioning whether Dillingham was "all there" in the osu game given his hasty departure for the ASU job?
Cristobal was clearly distracted at the end of last season.
I believe there is one key reason for mid-season firings and rapid hiring before the season is complete...the early signing date for recruits is mid-December.
Understandably ASU wants a new HC ASAP before the signing date. So they go poaching.
Schools fire in the mid-season so they can start the vetting process for a new HC and make a hire as the season ends...see Wisconsin hiring Luke Fickell today...which even then leaves only weeks before the early signing date.

Another sad illustration of the current state of affairs in college football. It's all so damn slimy and stinking wretched.
Yes, I do think Dilly had checked out. Can't remember the exact date Herm got fired at ASU, but wasn't that about the same time we started doing really strange things with our offense and throwing games away??
Hmmmm......

Herm was fired on 18 Sep. It sure seemed like he was distracted. I guess I feel it was kinda classless to fly from Corvallis to Arizona and not ride the team bus back to Eugene, so it's real possible that for two years in a row we were shafted by a coach who knew he was gone. It sucks big time.

There needs to be a dead period during the season si teams can't talk to other coaches under contract. Things are getting way out of hand and it's not good for the game.
