Arroyo fired at UNLV

Anyone that coached under Cristobal at Oregon, I am giving a pass because I am certain everything had to go through MC and so the "real" Arroyo in this case was never allowed to develop.

Also I am sure it is a fine line when being offered a head coaching job in terms of taking the "first" opportunity vs is this the best fit for me?

Compounding Arroyo's situation was being hired right on the cusp of Covid. Tough dynamic.

Will be curious to see if MC hires him at Miami.

I think he got a raw deal. The team seemed to be improving, but in todays world, it's win or else, no matter the circumstances. Doubt he gets a call from MC, but ya never know.

Re: Arroyo fired at UNLV

It is hard to believe he's been there 3 years already.
Cristobal will not hire him. An article today stated he's looking at transfers to save his butt. Win now or join the unemployed....at least for a while.
Still depressed with the crash and burn from Saturday....but with therapy and good rum, I think I will be OK.

The curse of coaches who leave Oregon is real
No rum for me, but therapy and whiskey are helping

Re: Arroyo fired at UNLV

Keith Heyward is DC at UNLV. wonder if anyone at UO is touching base w him right now? did a great job at Oregon with our safeties (help wanted right now) and secondary.

Re: Arroyo fired at UNLV

I was trying to remember the dynamics of Heyward's departure from Oregon and so I googled it...not sure if "messy" is an accurate description but definitely "different" per se.

He seemed on the cusp of getting an HC job. Given his previous status at Oregon i.e. assistant head coach (see copy / paste below) would he want to return to perhaps "only" be a DC? Feels a little like "been there done that."

Obviously different head coach now but hard to know if he wants to "go back" to Oregon? Bigger question is he what Lanning wants?

All speculation anyway because Tosh Lupoi is still employed as the DC at Oregon so there is no job opening for that position at Oregon despite what fans may want.

Copy / paste...

"Heyward was Oregon's safeties coach for four seasons (2017-20), and he added  co-defensive coordinator duties for his last three seasons at Oregon and was assistant head coach for the final two seasons.

Heyward was hired by Cal in January 2021 after Cal co-defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach Tim DeRuyter left Berkeley to become Oregon's defensive coordinator."
