Re: Positions that might be addressed thru the portal

I don't think there is anything "wrong" with the list BUT ultimately it comes down to coaching the players you have and for me that is the most important issue.

Texas A&M had the #1 recruiting class in 2022 according to Rivals. Do you know who was #56? USC!

Oregon was #24... Stanford was #25!

The Transfer Portal is a quick fix but long term it limits the growth and improvement of freshmem recruits who can't get game experience (see Oregon QB's).

All the positions noted in this article...are more about a quick fix than who Oregon or any team needs to recruit from high school level.

That is the reality but I think it makes "normal recruiting" less and less important.

Either way recruits and transfers need GOOD COACHING and that area Oregon needs adjustments and changes based on the most recent 3 games.

Re: Positions that might be addressed thru the portal

USC just proved you can miss on recruiting and fix a team in 1 season with the portal. The portal may have become just as big.

One big takeaway from the article is that they said Dante is expected to sign next week. Wouldn’t the ideal situation be Bo coming back for 1 more season and Donte taking over the following year? Things in college football rarely work out as planned so we’ll just have to hope for the best.

Re: Positions that might be addressed thru the portal

Regardless of what one thinks of USC, their schedule, etc...last season they were 4-8; hired an experienced HC; took in about 20 players from the Transfer Portal including Oregon's leading rusher who became USC's leading rusher until injured and here they are at 11-1; lead the country in turnover margin; ranked #4; playing for the Pac-12 Championship with an opportunity to go to the Playoffs. That didn't happen because of luck or a soft schedule or just because they are USC...bringing in 20 different players could have easily backfired. It happened because of GREAT coaching.

Dante to Oregon and Nix returning is the dream scenario.

Regarding receiver:

Anyone know what became of Oklahoma transfer Caleb Chapman this year?? I know he was dinged up to begin year, but not sure if he just never got healthy or couldn't break into the rotation. Possible red shirt?

So many needs on defense. Would love to see a ton of portal guys there.
