Theoretically, a conference champion who doesn't get a first-round bye but goes on to win the Natty would be playing 17 games. 12 regular season, 1 conference championship game, then 4 playoff games.
This was always a major hurdle in regard to expansion from the Universities.....too many games! Now, it doesn't seem to even be mentioned.
Another signal that "student athlete" will be a thing of the past and players will simply become employees? Education optional?

Yeah, I think you can kiss the "student-athlete" designation goodbye. I'm sure a degree will be something most kids want, but given the money, not sure it'll be a priority. I'm waiting for the first lawsuit where a kid isn't able to meet academic standards and is refused admittance.
I doubt they shorten the season due to the TV networks now being in control. Any concern about too many games will become moot with $$$$$$$.

The hypocrisy is astounding.
I hoped this would be a golden opportunity to go to an 8 game conference schedule. Sigh....
