Oregon will be down like 20 players from the roster for the osu game to the Holiday Bowl...between those opting for the NFL Draft and the Transfer Portal. This dynamic is not unique to this game or the Ducks.
Somehow I don't think it would be that many IF the Ducks were in the Playoffs.
Yet after reading the column below and the comments by both head coaches, I realize to enjoy this game I need to adopt their mentality i.e a chance to for younger, less experienced players to have an opportunity to compete; players and coaches got extra practice time; this game is a lead-in to next season as much as it is an end to this one. All this with a different roster than just a month ago.
Nothing will rid me completely of the still bitter taste I have for the uw and osu games.
Here's hoping for a 10-win season.

I have a bald spot on my head where I've been scratching wondering why we had so many enter the transfer portal. Flowe and Thornton come to mind. With Sewell going to the NFL, I would have thought Flowe would have stayed. Going to Arizona?? Really??? Same with Thornton, who has yet to commit to another team. He played well when he was on the field.
I agree with Ducks Reign, had the Ducks been in the playoffs, many would have stayed. Not many have transferred out of the playoff teams...maybe after the Championship game. It's good that youngsters will get playing time in the bowl game. Agree with both coaches. I am still p-----d off at Cristobal for not putting in Thompson in last year's bowl game after they fell so far behind. Did nothing for Brown to stay in as I believe he's not on any team right now. Wonder if Lanning will put TT in this year if it gets out of hand either way? We shall see....go Ducks!

It's really a bit of a scrimmage game almost more for next season than this year.
While the portal is impacting the bowl games more than ever I've never been that huge of bowl games with a few exceptions. The Ducks getting into the Rose Bowl and more recently the playoffs has always been of interest to me and other fans for that matter.
Outside of the NY6 games most have never seemed that exciting. Even the NY6 games often end up is major mismatches. The recent playoffs recently haven't been all that exciting either. I like to root for the underdog in the 1 vs. 4 playoff spot like Cinci last year and just like last year you see how much better the 2 or 3 haves are versus the have nots.
Moving forward the mismatches of the playoffs expanding will be a major problem, but I'm still if favor of it. I think NIL deals should and might have clauses for big bonuses for playing in the playoff games to incentivize players from sitting out or transferring early. As others have mentioned perhaps there needs to be a dead period for coaches and players to transfer until the season is over, which is a whole different matter to get into. Other bowl games will just be a chance to play rookies and bench players more than anything and evaluate things for next year.

On Flowe maybe money, but maybe he thinks a fresh start is good after injuries and what I would imagine as him being disappointed with his performance on the field.
I agree with you about not playing Ty at all last year. The game didn't matter much and got out of reach early. Playing a QB who was leaving didn't accomplish anything other than proving how stubborn MC is.

Exactly. I feel the same way. After losing to the Huskies, which was very winable, that game took the wind out of my sails (and the Ducks, too) After reading that maybe only 61 players will be available to play, and many of them freshman, I don't expect Oregon to win. Having said that, it's my wife's birthday and will enjoy a romantic evening dinner with her.
