Tyson set up his own substack space called I-5 Corridor a while back. always enjoyed his work and his perspective when he was at The O. you can become a full subscriber for $50/yr (I didn't; not enough regular content). or pretend to 'subscribe' and get freebies from time to time. I think everybody should be able to read this one.
five guys who cover Duck football for a (sort of) living, analyzing the 2022 season and what 2023 holds, for both Oregon and the other NW schools. lots of good stuff.

Thanx Mac..a great read. I haven't pulled the trigger on a sub for the same reasons, but I do like Tyson, and just might sign up.
All these guys sound pretty high on Bo next year, and feel the O will be pretty good, while worrying about the D. Sounds like most of us

Thanks for the link. Always an interesting read when it comes from multiple voices.
As per a subscription...there is simply too much good information available for free without paying for it. I did, as I posted on here, subscribe to The Athletic via their $1 a month for 12 months promotion.
I prefer people who have access to a team they write about...between his written content and podcast, nobody I have read has more access to Oregon sports(osu too) than Canzano...BUT he too has a subscription price for more content...not worth it to me.
As per Oregon football...
COACHING...Lanning proved when Oregon was favored and should win comfortably...they did so...and that is very important...Cristobal struggled big time in this area.
Where Lanning struggled was when games were tight and he had less room for error...there were questionable decisions made in the Utah game despite Oregon winning.
OFFENSE...Oregon has a Bo Nix offense which didn't look like much with Ty Thompson. So I am not yet ready to buy in on a broad general assessment that Oregon has an offense.
I remember thinking that when Justin Herbert lead Oregon to a Rose Bowl victory...then I soon realized, Oregon had a "Justin Herbert offense" not an Oregon offense.
DEFENSE...don't have a clue what to expect. I do think it is more a coaching issue than player / talent.
OVERALL...When a head coach has been at a school for 4-years and the team is his team as in the overwhelming number of players are his recruits / transfers vs those he inherited...THEN we know what we have.
Mario Cristobal set the standard for how I measure the value of a head coach. Because after 4-years and all the hyped recruiting classes, etc. the team was not fun to watch and underachieved. The vibe at Autzen was deflated.
I know it fun to pile on the accolades for the successes while excusing the flaws and mistakes as "first-year head coach" issues. I learned my lesson with Cristobal on that approach.

John Canzano was fired by The Oregonian for burning the real journalists on staff and compromising their sources on the Nike youth basketball series. it marked the culmination of almost 20 years of misbehavior and recurring violations of basic ethical standards as practiced by legitimate news organizations. Andrew Greif and Tyson Alger, among others, left The O because Canzano's misbehavior made it too difficult to do their jobs.
he had an uncontrollable impulse to call attention to himself and exaggerate his role in any transaction. that included inventing sources and fabricating quotes; tolerable actions on cable shout-shows or Kardashian-style socmed, but OOB at an organization that has won Pulitzer Prizes. 'I was talking with a high-rolling Oregon booster', 'I called an NFL GM I know', and my all-time favorite, 'Chip Kelly told me' (and 30 other media types standing outside the H-D).
won't be bothering to read his substack scratchings; just assuming the 'I' key is still stuck in the down position on his keyboard, and some of what he writes has an element of 'truthiness'.
there are lots of moving parts to a football program within a $100-million athletic department within a state's flagship university in a world that has seen tectonic shifts these past few years. get too focused on the head coach and you'll miss what's really happening.
Sonny Dykes couldn't get it done in four years at Cal. last I heard he retired in shame and moved to a tropical island somewhere.

GOLD STAR post. Well done!
The ONE thing I've liked about the "clown" this year has been his coverage of Pac12 media rights and conference expansion. He's been really on top of it and knowledgeable.
So, there's one nagging feeling I get about Oregon football next year: Bo Nix.
Does anyone feel like there is/will be a push to change his game up next year? As in reeling in his running game and making him more of a pure pocket passer?
If healthy 2022 Bo is back next year, I am absolutely stoked at the possibilities for Oregon next season. But I think changing his game could be disastrous. I am a firm believer you can't take away a player's best abilities and instincts and expect a better player.
I also really detest many fans feelings (ESPECIALLY Oregon fans) that it's too risky to run the quarterback. If you get into a player's head that he will get injured if he plays football the way they always have, well then guess what? They will get injured!!! As soon as you start to worry about injuring yourself, you lose your ability to be effective. Bo at his best is a running QB. End of story. Oregon, please don't try and fit a square peg into a round hole. You can't turn Tim Tebow into Tom Brady. It just doesn't work.
Yes, we need to develop a backup QB in case of injury. But don't try and make Bo Nix into something he is not. We won't like the results.
THIS is the biggest thing to watch next year and gives me great pause.
The defense is obviously a deep concern, but it can't help but get better next year, Can't it??

that is what we are all waiting to see. does Nix want to take a shot at the NFL, adapt his game to become more of a pocket-passer, and learn to make those next-level throws? or is this it? one more year of (well-paid) fun and scoring touchdowns and winning games, and then on to a career in coaching or a sports-related vocation.
Austin Novasad, the 4-star out of Dripping Springs, TX, & heir-apparent, projects as a traditional pocket passer. he seems to have come with Will Stein as a matched pair. I am expecting to see something more conventional next year. Oregon definitely has the personnel on offense to play that style successfully.
a QB eluding the rush and scrambling to convert a 3rd down is a back-breaker for the D, and I love it. a QB running designed plays between the tackles or to the edge has been the cause of injuries to Vernon Adams, Justin Herbert, and Bo Nix (and others), and I don't like it so much.
Bennett Williams's younger brother, a 5th-year senior-to-be at Fresno State, reportedly visited Eugene today and is a good chance to transfer in. we could sure use some experienced help at safety next year.

Because I "check in" with Canzano's columns, podcast with Wilner and his BFT podcast on a regular basis...the picture painted of him, especially as it relates to previous colleagues...doesn't match reality.
Tyson Alger was on Canzano's podcast about 4 days ago and Andrew Greif was on it a little over a year ago and previously after Greif left for the LA times while Canzano was still at Olive. Likewise Canzano has been on Alger's I-5 Corridor podcast.
Also on the I-5 Corridor, Alger wrote a complimentary piece about Canzano after his departure from the Oregonian.
So there doesn't appear to be the animosity between them which is implied with your opinions(links? sources?) about their time together at the Oregonian and all related issues. In fact, it looks to be just the opposite.🤔
I seriously doubt Alger and Greif would leave the Oregonian because of Canzano's "misbehavior" then turn around in subsequent years and support his endeavors...by being a guest on his podcast or vice versa. Why would they want to do him any favors?
I often find those who criticize Canzano do exactly the same thing they claim to dislike about him.

Yeah. I think I'm probably in the minority on this.
But Oregon would not have been nearly as successful this year without Bo running the ball. I don't think anyone can dispute that.
Hopefully Stein can design the offense to reduce the designed runs. I'm just skeptical about Bo as a pocket passer.
REALLY skeptical.
