Season winding down....

thought I'd shake the cobwebs from basketball discussions.

What can really be said, other than this has been a disappointing season for both men's and women's teams?

It's been so frustrating on the men's side as I watch (sometimes attend) all the games. I hesitate to even discuss this team objectively as it just brings on so much angst and depression lol. I mean, can this team ever actually grab an opportunity that is right in front of them game after game? Unbelievably, we are still a bubble team! The bubble has been BEGGING us to pop that sucker and Oregon just refuses to do it again, again and again. UCLA and Washington are just the latest failures. Will we get past WSU and the rest of our incredibly weak schedule and grab their Tourney bid? Sadly, I doubt it. But I'll be watching and hoping...... and tearing my hair out. This team makes me feel like such a sucker!

I question Altman's coaching. I can't wait for the end of the Will Richardson era. I'm saddened by this communities (Eugene/Spfld) apparent loss of interest in Oregon basketball. as home crowds (and message boards) can attest. I don't like Dana's recent philosophy in recruiting both HS and transfers. Sigh....On the bright side, I'm REALLY hopeful that the arrival of Shelstead next year will turn our fortunes around. He may be that Alpha PG we have so sorely missed since Pritchard left. And as always, we have a great class coming in. Is Dana up to the task anymore??????

I haven't followed the women's side as much. but we've lost what, 5 or 6 in a row? And apparently, we are still a solid Tourney team?? Amazing. The games I have watched. I haven't been impressed with the talent on this team. Losing Prince hurt, but still, is there a whole lot to build on with this squad? I questioned Graves at the beginning of the year, and I'll be casting a wary eye him going forward. I think his teams have got worse each year after the departure of the "Golden Three". But Alas, I'm hopeful these are just bumps in the road.

Anyone follow Oregon Basketball??

Thoughts?

Re: Season winding down....

I just noticed your post. As you say there's been a lot of declining interest in Ducks basketball.

The men's team hasn't looked like tournament team outside of a couple good games. I've watched about half of the games this year. Their performance against Washington seems to be about an average showing for them and they still lost. It's just really hard to see a tourney appearance this season.

I've seen great Altman teams it's just been a few years. Lousy PG play, lack of shooting, inconstant effort on D, and inability to bring the ball up the court are just a few things that come to mind when I think about this team.

I'm looking forward to end of the WR erra too.

Dana gets another year and all be calling for his departure if next years team doesn't improve dramatically.

Going back to the interest I have to wonder how much more interest there would be if the team was better? Certainly some, but it almost seems like interest in basketball is declining.

Re: Season winding down....

I was sky high when basketball season started.  I really thought the Ducks had something special this season.  Instead it's been a total collapse.  I realize that injuries played a part in the slow start to this year but everybody's healthy and the team just hasn't jelled.  Watching them stand around the perimeter passing the ball back and forth, taking a long shot as the clock is winding down or forcing a pass inside to a teammate that is double teamed has been a disaster.  There just isn't any chemistry that I can see with this year's squad.  And with that, the Ducks still have a shot at finishing 4th place in the conference, earning a bye in the pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas.  Here's how it breaks down. ASU 10-7, Utah 10-7, Oregon 9-7.  ASU has three tough match ups left.  All on the road with games against in state rival Arizona and two games against the LA schools.  I could see them losing all three.  With Utah, they have two home games against the LA schools. Again, a difficult task.  Utah plays at Colorado for their final game.  And now Oregon.  A game against WSU at Pullman, a road game against the Beavers and closing out the season at home against the Bay Area schools.  All winnable. But which Duck team will show up?
