Altman suggests maybe Oregon should get rid of him

An article and a column.

I think he has probably lost his ability to connect with players.

He is an excellent coach with successes everywhere he has been BUT there is an obvious gap between what he wants from his players and what they are willing to give him...fans see it clear as day and hence they are not interested in going to games.

I also think he plays his favorite players regardless of how they are performing vs play those who listen to him, are energized, etc.

IF Will Richardson has had shoulder issues all season then why is he starting / playing so much? The weekend games in Washington were absurd. There isn't a coach I played for in ANY sport who would have played Richardson as Altman did in those games when for whatever reasons he was hurting the team more than helping them.

Re: Altman suggests maybe Oregon should get rid of him

Playing Richardson injured for all that time was indeed puzzling.

It's also bordering on criminal that he was playing him 40 minutes a game as well!

Re: Altman suggests maybe Oregon should get rid of him

All things with Richardson have been a head scratcher.

From what I saw the last 3 games I wouldn't say the entire team isn't playing up to his standards. Things certainly aren't in Dana's comfort zone coaching though.

Speaking of Dana I know I mentioned on her before that I watched a number of his top Creighton teams in person in the early 2000's during college. All the players scrapped and played hard. They also had Kyle Korver who holds the record for most seasons with the highest 3-point percentage among other shooting records. Dana's had great success with the Ducks, but you have to wonder if the Creighton years are really his bread and butter?

He's an old school coach and I appreciate his honesty. If he doesn't think the players played hard he'll say it. You don't get cookie cutter comments like "we need to execute better".

Dana may not be able to adapt it's just he needs to find the right players to make it work.
