Rivaldo Soares enters transfer portal

The transformation of Altman while at Oregon is interesting.

Early in his career he seemingly could hang onto some recruits while bringing in a revolving door of transfers...albeit not all of them possessing great character.

Now nobody stays...or so it seems...recruits, tansfers, starters, backups...I understand roster turnover when a coach first takes over a program but Altman has been at Oregon since 2010.

Now transfer #4... SOMETHING is going on with Altman's approach to coaching and it is not X's and O's.

From the 2012-13 season, Oregon reached the NCAA Tournament 6 of the following 7-years...and would have made it the Covid year and DID make it to the next year...now consecutive NIT appearances and how many people feel as though the team is trending upwards?

Fans are weary of roster turnover and having to patiently wait until February for the team to "come together."

I don't think there is a single reason(if that were the case a solution might be easier) but for consecutive years he has complained about the lack of players putting in extra effort / time(then change how and who you recruit, Dana) and stop starting / giving the most minutes to injured players and those who don't make others better...to name 2 examples.

Re: Rivaldo Soares enters transfer portal

Sadly, Oregon's program isn't much different than most others these days. I personally hate the new college transfer landscape, but I'm an old fart so I don't think I'll ever get used to it or like it.

I think Dana's problem is he just doesn't know how to manage it. I personally think his days as a D1 college coach are numbered.

I agree that his statement about not having any "dogs" on his team really angered me. YOU RECRUITED THEM DANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean seriously, does he even talk to these players or talk to their previous coaches before he brings these guys in?? For cryin' out loud man.

Next year is pivotal for Dana and his future here.

Nope, me neither.

Re: Rivaldo Soares enters transfer portal

As I posted earlier, I will not miss Soares either.  And Guerrier is another player that might do better at another school if he decides to stay in school.  Soares and Guerrier both played in 36 games this past season.  993 minutes for Soares, 927 for Guerrier.  2nd and 3rd most minutes played.  Only Richardson played more...1178 minutes.  The one guy I would love to stay and play would be N'Faly Dante.  I'm sure he is looking at all his options to see what would be best for him.  Stay at Oregon, transfer to another school or go pro.

Now Dante, there's a "dog". Would love to have him back.

Bittle showing signs. Barthelemy looks promising. Anyone else? Meh.

Re: Rivaldo Soares enters transfer portal

Besides Bittle and Barthelemy, I'm glad to see Jeremaine Couisnard staying.  All three players suffered injuries throughout the season.  And Brennan Rigsby also was injured before the season started, then broke his thumb/finger? at the end of the season.  So many injuries to this team...is Altman pushing them to hard during the summer training practices or are these guys just brittle?

Re: Rivaldo Soares enters transfer portal

I'm kind of ambivalent towards Coisinard. He's a streaky shooter and is prone to disappearing for several games at a time. I'd much rather keep Barthelemy if I had to choose between the two. Didn't really get to see enough of Rigsby to have an opinion on him. I remember him throwing up a lot of bricks though.

I still think there will be more guys to depart the team.

Re: Rivaldo Soares enters transfer portal

I also want Keeshawn Barthelemy to stay. I did some research of his game against the Ducks when he played for the Buffaloes.   The first game he played 29 minutes, 5 of 9 field goals, 0-2 from three point range, 9 of 9 free throws, 4 assists, 2 steals and 19 points.  The second game totals:  28 minutes, 6 - 11 field goals, 2 - 6 three point range, 2 steals and 16 points.  Bottom line, regardless of who is on this team needs to stay healthy.  Injuries can decimate at team and that's what happened to last years squad.
