Some insight from Ty Thompson

Re: Some insight from Ty Thompson

The backup QB position has been so badly mangled by now 3 consecutive Oregon head coaches... Taggart, Cristobal and Lanning...at this point there is still no backup QB of any measure of reliability.

So yes everyone admires Thompson for staying but it doesn't change the fact that after 2-1/2 years at Oregon he BARELY plays.

It is reasonable to think maybe he simply doesn't have the "it factor" but I put most of the blame on the coaching staffS for his lack of DEVELOPMENT.

Robbie Ashford couldn't get on the field for a series at Oregon; transfers to Auburn in the SEC and earns a starting position. Can't play in the Pac-12 but can start in the SEC?! Imagine that?

All we can do now is hope Nix does not get hurt.🙏

There is a reason Robbie wasn't going to start for Oregon..these are his stats..

Re: Some insight from Ty Thompson

And how does anyone get experience if they don't play???

Those are not great passing stats although Ashford did rush for over 700 yards, 7 TD's and a 4.6 average. The point is he GOT TO PLAY IN GAMES.

How do the stats for Thompson and Butterfield compare to Ashford last season? Remembering Ashford was below them on the depth chart at Oregon despite having a "great" Spring Game in 2021.

For some reason Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma(under Riley) to name a few, have all found ways to coach / develop their quarterback talent in the last few years and put them into games with little to game experience... Lincoln Riley put true freshman Caleb Williams in the middle of the rivalry game with Texas.

When Oregon beat the luckeyes it was CJ Stroud's second start of his career.

Yet Oregon can only bring in transfers. So either Oregon's recruiting acumen for QB's is horrendous or they can't develop their recruits or they have decided to no longer do so.

Between Thompson, Butterfield and Ashford apparently nobody is / was good enough to play a quarter let alone start or be a good backup.

3 coaching staffs in a row and?

Yeah, I'm not arguing your main point, just saying in the PAC ya gotta be able to throw..Auburn went 5-7. Still, I agree we need to see our QB's getting PT whenever they can. It would be awesome to see Ty come out next year and ball out.

Re: Some insight from Ty Thompson

Don't know about quarterbacks being drafted...Stetson Bennett in the 4th round...come on. National championship and relegated to the 4th round? Give me a break. Bryce Young being made fun of in Carolina (they are shocked) for being so small before he takes a snap!! By the Panthers fans. I'm sure he will do well but the fans are already on his case. Wish him well. I would have taken Stroud from OSU first. McDaniel winning the Heisman. He's not that good. I don't expect him to lead USC to winning the PAC 12 or what is left of it. Prove me wrong.

What the hell criteria is being used to select QBs? Your observations and critiques are greatly appreciated.
