Will Colorado leave for the Big 12?

Lots of smoke all of a sudden. This would, imo, spell doom for the PAC.

Re: Will Colorado leave for the Big 12?

Sounds like a formality at this point.

Larry Scott really messed up the Pac-12 media-wise; USC and UCLA back stabbing the entire Pac-12 by leaving and representing the largest media market in the Conference just put more gas on the fire...from which Kliavkoff has been unable (unwilling?) to put something together.

At this point I would tell Kliavkoff, "Whatever you have, SIGN IT. Make a deal."

Inaction and perception are killing the Pac-12 more than a lack of a media rights deal. It will not be any better 2, 4 or 6 months from now.

In his defense...the Pac-12 presidents are HIS bosses and just as we saw with Scott...they are SLOW to make decisions. So this is on them too.

Plus as reported earlier, if Oregon is opposed to expansion, they are not helping the situation either.

Good points.

I'm speechless and at the same time not surprised.

Inaction by GK led to a very predictable outcome. If this was over a few million in a deal it's unfathomable. If there's a good reason for not getting a deal done I would really like to know.

As you pointed out this goes back long before GK was around and the Ducks aren't without blame either.

What now? It's hard to see a clear path forward. Sure, the B1G sounds good for the Ducks, but they don't want to expand right now.

Re: Will Colorado leave for the Big 12?

I like this article because it mentions the arrogance of the PAC's leadership. I feel that has been the most detrimental to the PAC.

Re: Will Colorado leave for the Big 12?

It is easy to armchair quarterback these situations but the one issue I have read which makes the most sense in terms of a "poor strategy" by the Pac-12 is...

FIRST they should have worked on expansion and then SECOND negotiated a media rights deal vs what appears to be the opposite of what has happened.

BUT again in defense of Kliavkoff that strategy is most likely a Catch-22 situation...potential additions to the Pac-12 wouldn't join without first seeing a media rights deal in place but such a deal is more difficult to secure without expansion / more teams! 🙄🥴😵‍💫

Unfortunately the Pac-12 is negotiating from a SIGNIFICANTLY weakened position.

I have no doubt Kliavkoff has been and is working hard but because there has been. so little transparency...is money the issue? Lack of media partners? Both? Other?

While I am not going to hold my breath, Colorado's departure would seemingly force Kliavkoff and the presidents to SAY SOMETHING. Being silent is no longer an option because right now the PERCEPTION is the Pac-12 is drifting at sea with no clue on what to do.

Re: Will Colorado leave for the Big 12?

The leadership of the Pac12 is a joke.

It's not all Kliavkoffs fault. But in my view he has been an absolute disaster of a hire. Blame the presidents for that.

His incompetence and naivete (and silence) are unforgivable.

Part of me wonders if he's not a straight-up charlatan???
