A dark day

I've spent my life loathing the BIG10.

Now, we are one.

Oh, and to top it off, now we are BFF's with Washington.

Re: A dark day

Dark day indeed.  I almost cannot believe it.

The new UO President sent out a bulk-generated congratulations message, I had to send a nasty-gram back, though I'm sure it will go into a cold data center junk mail dust bin somewhere.

“I am pleased to share that the University of Oregon will join the Big Ten Conference in August of 2024, ....... forsaking all academic priorities, tradition, rivalry, fan base and alumni support for the evil of money.”

There, fixed it for you.

What a sad and embarrassing day indeed.  This entire debacle has shown there is no leadership at the UofO and the broader Pac-12.  Shame on all of you for allowing this travesty.  I hope you at least made Uncle Phil happy, because you sure pissed off everyone at OSU, WSU, Cal and Stanford.

First thing out of the gates on your watch and the Pac-12 craters.  Perfect, just perfect.  Consider yourself 0-1 and have a nice dinner with Larry and George to celebrate.

Soooo glad I'm back on AAOD ....

Re: A dark day

I just hope what lead up to this somber moment is ACCURATELY portrayed.

Oregon and the UW may have put the Pac-12 out of its misery but this is LONG IN THE MAKING...thanks to incompetent leadership at schools; arrogance with the Commissioners; stupid tactics(let's first get a media deal and then expand) and so on...Oregon and the UW may have decided overnight what transpired today but this situation has years of history behind it.

Otherwise, interest-wise I only care about 6 or 7 Oregon games based on the teams in the BIG at the moment...

Oregon vs...

UCLA
USC
UW
the luckeyes
Michigan
Penn State
*Michigan State(if they are good)

Otherwise I don't care about any other teams...meaning watching them play Oregon.

At this very moment I would define myself as a full-time Oregon fan(2023 season) who most likely will be transitioning to a part-time Oregon fan in ALL sports starting when the Ducks are officially in the BIG. 🤮🥴🙄 Moving on I guess.

Re: A dark day

I agree about the long and sordid tale of Pac12 failure of leadership/vision.

But today feels like Luke Skywalker joining the Dark Side and summarily plunging his light saber into Lea, Han and Ben in one fell swoop. I digress.

Can we all agree that was once going to be an incredible Pac12 season is now going to pretty much suck?
What was once going to be the game of the decade against USC at Autzen is now going to be dubbed the "Traitor" Bowl by yours truly. The once delicious and unceremonious send-off of Colorado is now a "who cares" tilt. And the payback of Beavis to end the season will almost have a "serves us right if they kick our ass" feel to it.

Can't wait!

Re: A dark day

Yes, certainly long in the making, starting with Larry scumbag Scott and his bizarre "no deal" with ESPN back in 2012 +/- followed by the arrogance of not listening to an expansion deal, only to be eaten by said expansion conference 10 years later.  George kupcake Kliavkoff simply inherited a sinking ship and promptly proceeded to pull the stop-cock out rather than seal it up.  Our new UO President then boldly stood on the deck with water up to his ankles and proudly declared "I'm pleased to share lifeboats from the SS BIG have arrived!"

Agreed that this season is an official muff.  I just hope our coaches can keep the players motivated and less distracted than the opposing team.  Can you even imagine what is going on in the locker rooms of teams that didn't get a lifeboat?  Regulated to a life of living on a deserted island getting fired up to play the Lobos?!  I read that the SC social media boards are blowing up knowing that they didn't get rid of their nemesis after all.  Now THAT cracks me up!

I'm not even sure to what level I will be a fan going forward, just too much info to process and unknowns going forward.  Maybe some of it will end up being okay playoff-wise, just don't know.  Right now I am thinking my attending the Colorado game might be my last in Autzen.  Too far and too expensive to get there to watch anyone other than maybe tOSU.  Rutgers?  Maybe not.  48 years of watching the Ducks play rival schools buried in the cat box.

Re: A dark day

Yes, I'm not sure of my fan level going forward either. I still love my Ducks and I will watch of course.
Who knows, I'll probably come around at some point to this new reality. But one thing I will never get over is the death of the Pac12. The death of a 100+ year old conference and all the regional rivalries and traditions that go with it. All for greed and lining the pockets of the TV executives, University presidents and AD's.

The last few days, I keep wondering what the actual student athletes gain from all of this? A tad more exposure? A couple extra dollars in their pockets?  Meanwhile the brass has sold the soul of the whole enterprise.

I may be wrong, but I think College Football will begin to lose fans at a pretty decent clip.

Re: A dark day

It’s tough to read that the Ducks had a decent ESPN deal just year ago. But the president’s said no and the Big 12 got the deal.

https://www.on3.com/news/pac-12-received-last-minute-tv-rights-bids-from-espn-cbs-fox-last-week/

We could’ve still been together as a conference on sound, financial footing and talking just about how good the teams are this year. It just makes my blood boil.

I totally get why the Apple deal was lousy and leaving made sense. It didn’t have to be that way.

Sorry for the rant. I was busy in the way last weekend and just figured I’d move on to football but it’s still hard to make peace with the management of the now former Pac, 12 conference.

Re: A dark day

So basically this went from about $31M per program a year ago for all teams to about $30M per year for six teams with four out in the cold with nothing.  Outstanding.

Re: A dark day

I still haven't come to grips with any of this.

I thought I might be feeling better by now.

Re: A dark day

I feel worse than having a bad foil wrapped kabob at a food truck. Not knowing which end has the worse problem. And ALL of it could have been avoided.

Hope I get fired up before the first game. Now I’m wondering what options will be there to watch it. And I’ll be at the Colorado “Prime” game yet have very mixed emotions about it. Maybe a field streak is in order. One thing for sure is I’ll have both flask 1 and flask 2 filled with top shelf single malt ….. always eases the pain!
