Stanford and Cal to ACC

And then there were only two!

Well...if you are an OSU or WSU fan let alone the schools themselves...what options are left?

I am thinking the Big 12 makes the most sense IF the Conference would even take them...but maybe they would now at a "discounted" rate?

Otherwise the Mountain West?

Neither have the financial resources to go independent.

But anything other than a P5 or I guess now P4 Conference is going to trigger a significant exodus of athletes in all sports to the Transfer Portal.

Re: Stanford and Cal to ACC

OSU/WSU have no bargaining power or leverage.  As you say, the options are severely limited.  Best option is B12 with a reduced share ($20MM per?) versus MWC (less than $10MM per).  I truly hate this, especially because all of the investment will be for naught in the short term if they become G5 programs.  It's not just football that will see mass exoduses, mind you.  The OSU baseball and gymnastics programs are very highly regarded programs as well that will see defections...

Re: Stanford and Cal to ACC

When the Pac collapsed it was hard to see a power conference having interest in OSU/WSU. The Big 12 makes sense, but they sounded pretty firm that the other 4 were it.

It's a shame that geography for TV markets should be what matters. OSU in particular has really good other programs like JJ referenced. Even if you're from the New York area do you really want to tune in to see Rutgers play?  I guess I just don't understand the media values and market. Based on how it's gone I'm assuming that yes, Rutgers is going to pull in bigger numbers than say a good OSU team just because of the market size.

Getting back to Stanford and Cal it's hard to see them being all that happy either. Joining at a reduced rate and now the travel distance nobody else on this side of the country. The ACC isn't stable either. There long media deal and huge buyout is the only thing keeping it together. FSU and Clemson wants to jump at the first opportunity. The ACC might be the next domino to fall.

I guess at this point it's would've should've could've for the Pac's demise. Not taking the ESPN 30+ million deal is hard to move on from. The Ducks and Fuskies are on paper the biggest winners being able to join the B1G and all. It's hard to feel real good about it at this point for me.

Last night it was nice to finally have a sports  game I cared about on TV. I'm referencing Utah of course. It was hard to just watch the game on not think about the fact this is the last year we're in the same conference. They have been one of my recent favorite Pac teams to watch after the Ducks. On a more positive take Utah was not an original member of the Pac and only has been in a little over 10 years. It make just take some time to adjust to the B1G.
