It's been rumored but now seems likely. Mike Leach is gone.
Both Washington schools have now lost their 2019 HC. That seemed impossible just a few months ago.

Wow, that's big news. I'm curious to see what Leach can do elsewhere. You have to wonder if WSU could ever bring in a coach capable of competing with the limited talent and resources at WSU.

and Wazzu is stuck with $60 million in AD debt. hey, at least he beat Iowa State in the Alamo Bowl.

Yep! I just saw it on the news that Leach is heading to Mississippi State. I'm not sure it's a good thing for either party; however, I think Leach has wanted out of Pullman for a while.

That's been my feeling for some time: Leach was half way out the door, he just never got hired before. So he'll instill some discipline...

Wow, just saw this. I can't see WSU hiring a HC in the same caliber as Leach. I think we're going to see some down years ahead in Pullman.

I am not completely surprised. He is a guy who wants new challenges. He has been a head coach in the Big 12, Pac-12 and now the SEC and he will have plenty of challenges being in the same Division as Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Texas A&M! Recruiting should be easier but at the same time, while at WSU he never won the North Division outright and never thus never played in the Pac-12 Championship Game. He was 1-7 in the Apple Cup. The Air Raid is fun to watch, interesting and puts people in seats but in terms of winning championships, I have never bought into it despite all the glitzy statistics it generates.

I have contended as I posted on OLive many times, I think a key reason for the slip in the Pac-12 is because it is most tenured head coaches(Petersen, Leach, Shaw, Whittingham and perhaps Helton) have delivered how many "big wins" in the last 3-years whether bowl games or out of conference games? Games where the entire country took notice? Oregon / Cristobal have not been a drag on the conference even in losing to Auburn. Rather the big boys have not stepped up in big games. Now we are at a point where the conference will have 9 head coaches hired within the last 4-years. Hopefully these coaches, well besides Cristobal, will start to deliver on a larger scale. Go Ducks!

Well, KG should be pleased...

I'm wondering if this will have an effect on the commitments. WSU has 20 commits. All are 3***. Rivals has the Cougars ranked #10 in the PAC-12 and #54 in the nation. 247 Sports has them ranked #11 in the PAC-12 and #61 in the nation. It's shaping up to be an interesting off season for football.

Could be a challenge in the SEC...look forward to seeing what he can do. Might have to work more on the defensive side of the ball. Needs a defensive line that sweats Crisco.

At least no one can say college football is boring in the Pac-12.

Andy Avalos is already being mentioned as a possible replacement (one of several) at Washington State. I think there are two truths here. First, it's unlikely that regardless of whether or not Avalos ends up at WS, he stays at Oregon long term. He's just too good to NOT land a solid HC opportunity. Second, Oregon will have a great defense for the foreseeable future. Cristobal is only going to hire the best and the talent is there.
That said, I really hope Avalos sticks around for a few more years.

the SEC got more entertaining adding Kiffin/Leach and no more Leach droning on and on with Canzano (man that's a painful listen)...
