My three take-aways:
1. Lots to fix and improve on. I think they know that.
2. Nerve wracking and I'm down to the scotch store to replace a very worn bottle.
3. It's a win in a tough environment.
Next game. Practice. Improve.

I need another bottle of gin after that, but I do feel Ducks had the heart to pull this one out in a very hostile place. TTU hadb't lost a home opener in some time. As you say, lots to work on, and they will. Nix was great, but I was surprised they shut down the run game. NIce to see the D line get pressure, but gotta contain.I think maybe some changes at safety, and I worry about the secondary after that game, but it did look better than last year. Onward!!!

Yes, improvements needed in several areas...I think the penalty yards were greater than the rushing yards!
It will be a true test when they play the much improved Buffs.
Can anyone tell me what the number 64 represented on the helmets? Thanks in advance.

The #64 on the helmets was to honor Dave Wilcox.

coupla great pics of the Brandon-Bassa game-clincher in those links. now I have a desktop background for the next few weeks.
this is why I love college sports, and hardly follow pro at all. more than 55,000 drunk, illiterate, screaming "fans" in 90-degree heat who actually believed for 3 hours 42 minutes that their team could beat Oregon. hurling trash, beer, and slurs down onto the players and reportedly onto some Duck fans.
and then they had to go home to live the rest of their miserable lives in west Texas, while the Duck players returned to the Italian leather chairs and Brazilian hardwood floors of the Hatfield-Dowlin.
been a Duck for far too long to have doubts anymore. sat through infinite previous iterations of this program that would have lost that game. we won, and covering the spread (love Lanning's subtle allusion thereto) was cherry.
Coach Bellotti always said the most important week of the season is after Game 1 and before Game 2. so count Portland St as Week 0.
O-line played a poor game, and struggled to cope with the shifts along the defensive front. Ducks won 10 games last year--and Bo Nix had the best season of his career--because of Mario Cristobal's offensive line. (great W for Mario v A&M yesterday!) this year's group has equivalent talent, but they've got some maturing and coalescing to do.
blocking from the TE position was just as bad, excepting a few times P-Herbs got upfield and got a hat on somebody. TT consistently blew up and re-routed Duck tailbacks running to the edge. 3rd & 3 on the play before the go-ahead FG Ducks loaded the short side w a heavy package . . . and JJ2 ran OOB for a 4-yard loss. Yuck. (Matavao played a nice game for Chip yesterday.)
secondary lost sight of receivers and the ball too many times. Brandon had another monster game, and our pass rush decided the outcome (major change from last year). secondary will improve as they play together more, but given the quality of future opponents & their QBs, consistent pressure and disruption are a must-have going forward.
Ducks need to treat this as an L, and address the "issues". the talent is there. coach 'em up, and Let's Go Ducks!
