For one all the top 3 QBs in the Heisman odds are in the Pac.
More importantly they're all transfer QB's.
Conventional wisdom says you need to develop a rookie QB that will take a year or two to mature and turn into your teams captain for hopefully the next 3-4 years.
With the success Bo is having along with everyone else you have to question conventional wisdom.
For the record I was completely wrong on Bo. I never thought he would be this good and I wasn't a fan of disrupting the development of Ty.
If it was Ty going up North this weekend how do you like our chances? To his credit he's made some good plays this year and has come a long ways.
Supposedly the Ducks already have 2 good QBs including a 5 star committed for next year. We'll see who's at camp.
I'd feel really bad for Ty if another transfer came in after he's stuck it out. Decisions from the coaching are never based on feelings though.
What if a really good QB is interested in the Ducks next year?
I'm guessing the Ducks wouldn't hesitate on another transfer if it seems like a good fit.

Conventional wisdom is a thing of the past.
If Oregon has an opportunity to bring in a top-notch transfer QB, they'll do it in a heartbeat. I hope they do. We need to hit the ground running next year and I'm not a big believer in Thompson.
I'll be shocked if a big name QB wouldn't have his eyes on transferring to Oregon or that Oregon would not be doing all they can to bring one in.

1) I don't think great QB's transfer unless they are following their head coach to a new job.
2) QB's who are experiencing a new head coach; lost their starting job; maybe had some injuries; don't fit in a new scheme...those are more the type who transfer.
3) Case in point are the two QB's this weekend...Penix Jr(season ending injuries 3-years in a row at Indiana) and Nix with his up and down career at Auburn). Nobody predicted the successful STATS they have attained at the UO and UW but neither have they won anything either as in Conference championship or led a team to the playoffs...they would probably say that as well.
4) True freshman Dante Moore is ranked one spot below Bo Nix in the Pac-12 in Passing and two spots in Total Offense...Top Ten in both. In fact three freshmen QB's(Moore; Johnson at Utah and Fifita at AZ) are ranked in the Top Ten in Total Offense.
5) Transfers give you more immediate game experience but neither conventional wisdom or the Transfer Portal guarantee anything.
6) I do wonder if Dante Moore had been given a fair chance if he would have beaten out Nix at Oregon?
7) I do believe one factor starting next year(for UO, UW, USC and UCLA) will be if they have a QB who can play well in cold BIG weather? Dante Moore is from Michigan so UCLA should be okay at least with that issue.

I'm real sure the Ducks will end up with another transfer QB: Ty just isn't it, in fact he looked worse vs Stanford. Novosad is probably not it either, yet. Just gotta find the next Joe Burrow

some people might think the BoDacious billboard in NYC is marketing collateral promoting Bo Nix for the Heisman trophy. but it's really a Help Wanted ad. transfer to Oregon-this is what we'll do for you.
I expect Oregon to take a step back next year with the loss of so much experienced talent. not just Bo, but transfers and in-house players reaching end-of-eligibilty or leaving early for NFL.
what will be carrying forward into 2024 is the nucleus of a very good O-line and a cadre of talented receivers. it will be an attractive opportunity for a quality transfer QB.

We do lose a ton of experience and talent, but I like the young kids Dan has brought in, and I feel he has done a great job with the portal. Our LB play should be improved, and we have some top talent in the secondary. As you say, a solid O line and a lot of talented recievers. I think if Ducks hit a good transfer QB, they may do very well, but playing Michigan and tOSU we will probably need some luck as well.

I've been following Akili Smith Jr's high school career....albeit he's a 2025 commit. Kid has good size, 6'5" and 205 pounds. He's having an excellent high school career as a JR. I see him as a potential starter as a freshman or sophomore. With that being said, I think the Ducks will need a transfer in at quarterback to fill the gap. In the case of quarterbacks, size does matter.
Tua with the Dolphins is waiting to get killed, and Young with the Panthers is ready to be run out of Dodge by the locals. Panthers gave away the farm to draft him, and the quarterbacks after him are doing better and are bigger. (Stroud, Richardson) How the hell can you see over the mountain offensive lines in front of you to see who's open unless you run out of the pocket? The two we have coming in are not much over 6 feet.
Justin Herbert 6'6" has the size and the arm to get the ball to his receivers. We need taller quarterbacks coming in!

The answer to the question posed is most likely YES. Not because of the current roster, but because there will be a chance that a top 20 QB that is not NFL ready will be interested in coming to Oregon. Roster retention builds a program, roster improvement via the portal provides immediate gratification. I have no idea on what the roster will look like next season and my guess is that neither does Lanning. He has the guys who want to be here this year and that is what matters anymore. Once the portal opens back up in December, the process to build the 2024 team is already underway. Crazy stuff...

I had forgotten about Akili Smith Jr. Glad to hear he's doing well. I don't pay attention much to recruits over a year out much. In his case with his dad and all it seems more likely that he'll keep the commitment.
Being a Bears fan I was surprised the Panthers gave up so much to draft him. I feel sorry for Moore having to play for the Bears. They're about the worst run team in the NFL. I was born into the Bears and Ducks from various family members. For better or worse I'm a lifetime fan of both teams. Thank goodness the Ducks have given me something to be proud of at least.
Speaking of Herbert I wish he could've played for DL instead of Mario.
