#6 in CFP rankings.

Win out, and we're in, tho that's easier said than done. Coach Lanning was asked afetr the game if he thought the Ducks could reach the CFP:
“If we continue to grow and continue to elevate our performance moving forward and continue to not be satisfied and don’t read your press clippings,” Lanning said. “I don’t know where this team could be. But I’ll tell you this: That locker room’s not going to do that. These dudes are about to work as hard as they’ve ever worked on a Monday just because I know them. To have success and go play for championships, it takes a little bit of luck. It takes a little bit of good fortune. It takes being healthy. We have a winning team, and we have a special team in our locker room. But we have to continue to perform. And that’s what’s great about college football on any given Saturday.”

Re: #6 in CFP rankings.

Being ranked 6 is a big relief.

But I don't think win out and we are in is necessarily correct. FSU goes undefeated, they are in. Undefeated Ohio State or Michigan is in. SEC conference champ will be in. That leaves one spot open and Texas has me worried if they win out and are Big12 champs. We should get in before Texas for sure, But this is TEXAS we're talking about. The traditional Blue bloods still get a soft spot in the committees hearts and there's nothing we can do about that. Also, will Georgia get left out of they get beat by one loss Alabama in SEC title game??

Again, Oregon SHOULD get in, but we also shoulda got in in 2001.

Just win baby.. I like what all the pundits are saying about Oregon. Continue to win and look good doing it so we cannot be denied.

Yeah, good point. Just win, and we have a great chance, but it's so true we've been screwed before by perception. PAC is tough this year, so we got that going for us.
Fucking Michigan has not played a ranked team yet!

Two words:

JUST WIN. Control what you can. Everything else will take care of itself.

Re: #6 in CFP rankings.

1) I don't think any 1-loss team is guaranteed anything by winning out as long as undefeated teams remain. One thing is for certain, the CFP Selection Committee loves undefeated teams.

2) Speaking of, right now on the schedules of the remaining undefeated teams, there is only one guaranteed loss and that is the Sign Stealers vs the Luckeyes.

3) Current 1-loss teams ranked below Oregon but are threats if they win out...

+Texas lost a close game
to Oklahoma but beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Signature win.

+Alabama...if a 1-loss Alabama team beats an unbeaten Georgia team in the SEC Championship Game...maybe both teams get in?

4) Conference championship games will most likely be the determining factors.

Again, undefeated teams will always be given preference i.e. see last year with TCU despite a number of close and ugly wins(if you are undefeated then style points don't matter as long as you remain undefeated.

5) Best case situation for Oregon...

OSU and the UW continue to win so Oregon beats a ranked OSU team in the rivalry game and then the Pac-12 Championship Game is between 2 teams who both have a chance for the Playoffs(see Alabama vs Georgia).

By all indications at the moment, the Big Ten and ACC will not have those kind of conference championship games and most likely the Big 12 too.

So the 1-loss Ducks vs undefeated UW should, by any reasonable measure, put the winner in the Playoffs.

BUT a month of football remains so too much can happen.

Re: #6 in CFP rankings.

TCU lost the B-12 championship game to K-State last year. still backed into the CFB Playoff because 1-loss USC puked to Utah in the Pac-12 championship game. and then TCU got slaughtered 65-7, continuing a long B-12 tradition of under-performance in the post-season (Joke-la-homa, Nebraska).

the "Texas jumping Oregon for the fourth spot" scenario is real. Sark and others are already talking up the win in Tuscaloosa in early Sept.

right now the Committee has Oregon #6 and Texas #7. for Texas to jump Oregon, it would need to have a better quality win going forward. Ducks have a tougher schedule (SC, os, UW). Horns have K-State and then likely Okies in B-12 championship game.
by all rights, there's no way Texas should jump Oregon if both win out. doesn't mean it won't happen. which is why all the national noise, buzz, & bling about the Pac-12 is actually a good thing.

UW plays SC and os. best thing for UO would be to have UW win out. Duck fans also need to root for a loss from Free Shoes (@Florida end of season, Miami, ACC Champ game (Da Ville?)). and an L from Texas; 12-1 Okies wouldn't jump Oregon after that bad loss to Kansas.

this is the fun time of the year in college ball.

Re: #6 in CFP rankings.

Saw Herbstreit on Pat McAfee...he makes an interesting point about the arguments for teams that DESERVE to be in the Playoffs vs the BEST teams.

I didn't think TCU was one of the 4 best teams last year(but then they went and beat Michigan) and of course he is not on the Selection Committee, but his point is probably valid in terms of how the discussions go with that group of people.

The Pac-12 doesn't deserve to be represented in the Playoffs simply because they haven't had a team make it in recent years.

So it is important Oregon plays like it is one of the 4 best teams.

Next year with 12 teams will allow for much more wiggle room...but that is next year.

Re: #6 in CFP rankings.

Lots of scar tissue as a lifelong Duck and Pac12 fanatic. Can't help but feel extremely nervous relying on the good 'ol boys club to decide our fate.

It's weird and unusual to hear all the Pac12 love from the punditry this year. Of all years! Right?? It's deserved....but go figure. It shouldl serve us well if we go 12-1.

How surreal it would be for us to finally win a Natty in the Pac's last year as a conference? Almost seems a little bittersweet.

But mostly SWEET of course.

Re: #6 in CFP rankings.

So many things can happen I hate to even weigh in or worry about the rankings at this point. Yes, it's hard not to though.

It seems like every year with the 4 team playoff discussions revolve around what if most of the teams keep winning out.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong in that at this point in the season if the number 6# ranked team wins out wouldn't they have made it most years?

I'm more worried about injuries or a meltdown during a game at this point.

At this point winning out and getting screwed out of a playoff spot seems like a good problem to have.
