Nobody gets better in any sport by only watching real games and only playing in backup roles in meaningless minutes.
Since 2016 Justin Herbert is the ONLY HIGH SCHOOL RECRUIT to be DEVELOPED into a regular starting QB over multiple seasons for the Ducks.
And his freshman year which was Helfraud's last; it was baptism by fire. He played for 3 different HC's and at least that many OC's in his career. Turned out to be a pretty good QB.
When Oregon beat the luckeyes, CJ Stroud was starting the SECOND game of his college career.
Go look at the resume of Alabama's starting QB, Jaden Milroe and how he reached where he is at today...backup; starter; demoted; back to starter.
Then Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley put true freshman Caleb Williams into the middle of the Oklahoma v Texas rivalry game...and he led them to a victory.
If you keep recruiting all these 4* and 5* QB's and then continually have to rush to the Transfer Portal to "save the team"...something is not right in your recruiting / coaching process. And this continues to happen in one Oregon coaching staff after another.
Oregon like all the teams I noted above is loaded with offensive talent...figure out ways to have a young QB get them the ball.
All these other teams do it...why can't Oregon?
Ty Thompson has not been or is now the problem. It is entirely a COACHING issue.
I hope he stays and becomes the starter next season🙏

While I do think they'll bring in a portal QB, I would be thrilled if Ty could put it all together and start for the Ducks next year. I really do admire the kid; he has stuck it out, and that would be a great story!
