The criticisms are fair and accurate. Simply not much in the way of statistics and facts which support Kelly keeping his job at this point. We will see how he finishes the season but I am expecting a new head coach going into the transition to the Big Ten.

His recruiting is terrible. Never been his strong suit as he openly detests the process.
That said, if a change were to be made, who is out there who could potentially elevate the program going onto Year One of B1G play? While I detest the man, the only name popping into my head at the moment is Chris Petersen...

He seems better suited to just be an OC for a really good college game. Of course between the pay gap and the pride of losing a promotion after being one of the most revolutionary coaches that's probably not what he wants.
I agree with JJ that his disinterest in recruiting has hurt the team a lot. While a lot of praise is deserved for the coaching staff motivating the Ducks players in addition the evolution and QB development of Bo in a short period a large part of their success has come from obtaining the physical players. I.E. look how they pushed around Utah in their own house. Is Bill Belichick all of sudden a really bad coach? What about Gregg Popovich of the Spurs? They've both been bad in recent years because they don't have enough talented player. As at stands now Chip or anyone else can't just out coach their way out of not bothering to recruit.

He’s all but toast now. I think he coaches against USC then gets the boot before the early signing period starts.
I’m biased but I love what Chadwell is doing at Liberty. He built Coastal Carolina up and has this program on the edge of NY6 consideration if they run the table. The UNLV guy also has “it,” it seems.
Not hating on Chip, but HC doesn’t seem to fit him well….

I have been and will always be a fan of Chip Kelly and wish him well.
However I don't think he has evolved as a head coach as the game itself has evolved.
Kind of ironic he was WAY AHEAD of the curve at Oregon and now he seems far behind it at UCLA.
If you can't recruit at UCLA...that is a YOU problem.
I think he is good at developing players(how many 4* and 5* players did he have at Oregon?) BUT at some point you need athletes in today's game although the Transfer Portal has helped neutralize that issue to some degree i.e. getting players with experience but not necessarily elite.
As for the future...if he wants to be a head coach...he might be better at a Mountain West school where it is primarily 3* recruits with less pressure to "win big."
I have wondered if Ryan Day would hire him(everyone knows their history together, right?) as the OC for the luckeyes?🤔
Presumably he doesn't need the money so he could be selective.
Hopefully his tenure at Oregon doesn't get distorted by the haters.
He didn't inherit an elite offense at Oregon...he CREATED it as the OC for 2-years prior to becoming the HC.
The coach who was a one trick pony and sunk the program to its worst season in 25-years was Mark Helfraud.
He inherited an excellent team with Marcus Mariota waiting in the wings and proceeded over 4-years to ruin it.
How many coaching jobs has he had since Oregon??? Chicago Bears OC and?
It is going to be a very interesting next few weeks in college football on many levels!
