Penalties and the kicking game are pretty low hanging fruit, but noteworthy and magnified as the Ducks creep closer to a possible CFB spot.
ASU has confidence and will put up a great fight before the Ducks just simply overwhelm them with their depth at every position. Ducks can hopefully put this one away quickly and rest the starters for what will be an epic Civil War matchup, especially if the Beavs knock off UW.
As an aside, J Smith being placed on the potential list for the A&M job, you think he would go there or do you think he ends up at UCLA when the fire Chip? Only reason I bring this up is that I don't see him sticking around once that roster is poached clean by P5 programs and there is still no light on what is happening next season for scheduling and such.

I do wonder what Smith will do. If nothing had changed, I would have bet he was an OSU lifer, but now, if he wants to coach in a P5 conference, he'll have plenty of opportunities. CK will probably be fired, and if they wanted him that would keep him on the west coast. Lanning has been mentioned for the A&M job, and I'm sure he'll be mentioned for other openings. Silly season is upon us

Zero stress or anxiety that Lanning would leave Oregon for A&M or anywhere else this offseason. Dude is the king of Oregon right now, why trade that to be a footstool for boosters? If he does indeed choose to leave down the road, though, there are better programs than A&M to choose from...

Realizing that “fit” may not have much bearing on a coaching job these days but I don’t see JS in ucla. He seems too grounded to be sucked into the media vortex that anything LA is. A&M? Maybe.

According to a (non-gossipy type) Beaver fan, the OSU coaches are facing a 40% pay cut and Smith has already interviewed at Michigan St.

it's Sally Jessy Raphael time in college football. the drama & emotion over the coming weeks will make Real Housewives look sedate. and those with the fewest sources and least knowledge of the situation will, as usual, be shouting the loudest.
I pungled up $50 for a scrip to Tyson Alger's substack at the beginning of the season. always liked his writing at The O, and he clearly still maintains sources and access in Eugene. in the past two weeks he's delivered columns on Dave Wilcox, Big Play VA, Khyree Jackson, Bo Nix (off the field), Bo Nix (on the field); good chat w Mike Bellotti about the P-12 in mid-October.
his column today on Lanning is modest enough to acknowledge that nobody knows what's going to happen, and that Lanning is not an easy read from outside. but his case that Texas A&M is a worse job than Oregon right now rings true. the Aggie 12th Man High Rollers would have to cough up more than $100 mill to pay off Jimbo and buyout Dan Lanning. who the hell would want to step into that crucible?
if anybody is making odds and taking bets, I'm saying Lane Kiffin to A&M. he's hit his ceiling at Ole Miss, and A&M desperately needs someone who can rehab that dormant offense.

Kiffen makes sense, Lanning would be crazy to take the job, imo. I also think he'll stick around here for awile, but two words...you never know.

Let's see what he says in the presser tonight.
I'm assuming it will be the usual vague, coach-speak garble-de-gook that coaches always say in these situations. I guess it's smart to not say too much while your current employer is putting together a new contract, but boy-oh-boy do I hate this stuff. It's one of the few things I dislike about college sports as compared to pros. Teams aren't really stealing coaches from each other every 5 minutes.

DL just said “zero chance I’ll be coaching elsewhere.
After his new contract, I’m not very concerned about him leaving in the next year two at least.
For one, the buyout is huge.
In the interview last year, he said he didn’t want to put his kids through moving again. He seemed sincere about the matter.
I could see something like Alabama or Georgia opening up in another year or two being of concern. Texas Tech this year not so much.

DAN THE FREAKING MAN!!
I love this dude. What an emphatic middle finger to aTm! I'm so pleasantly surprised he shut this down in such a total and complete fashion.
Onward!!!!
