QB's are headed to the Transfer Portal

Quite a few QB's including notable starters are already in the TP... including once again...Tyler Shough! Lots of P5 experience for some of these players.

Re: QB's are headed to the Transfer Portal

Shough is an interesting one, I thought he found his home at TT.

I have to think Ty would bolt if Lanning reaches into the portal for a QB. While I have mixed feelings on Ty’s ability, he will want to be behind center next year …. wherever that is. At some point I think a team needs to show commitment in following up on recruiting with coaching “up” and playing time of said recruits. I’m hoping Ty is the guy and that Novosad can follow him (or maybe win the start?) and that we don’t need to go there.

AGREE 💯

I know the coaching mantra of "always looking for players to make us better" but how about the coaching staff making players better?

Here is a great article on Alabama's starting QB and all the doubters he has faced including being benched earlier this year. At Alabama you are under THE proverbial microscope perhaps like no other place.

With Oregon unlike some teams, you can't argue there is no talent around the QB position.

A name being tossed around is Cam Ward from WSU. He actually isn't in the portal yet, and already has some teams interested in him. We'll see, but I do expect the staff to grab a QB out of the portal. I won't blame Ty if he transfers, he's worked hard for us!

I like Ward.  A lot.

Would not surprise me if the Ducks picked up a QB from the portal.  That said, I do not believe they would pick one up as insurance, but as a starter.  Don't know enough about who is out there, pretty sure the coaches and staff have their eyes on a couple already...

Making a blanket statement like that is ridiculous, your continued hatred of Lanning and his staff boggles the mind. Plus, Thompson has progressed under Will Stein’s direction and Novosad has not played enough to get a read on how he can develop. Maybe they do not have “it”, but Jalen Milroe did not have “it” until he got the chance to play. Interesting that Thompson’s stats this year are superior to Milroes’s 2022 Alabama stats with both serving an identical role.

Alabama tried to get Tyler Van Dyke to transfer last May before Miami upped his NIL deal. Evidently, Nick Saban had little faith in Jalen Milroe or their 2022 class 5 star Ty Simpson ability to get the job done. Then they brought in Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner, a 4 star basically ranked the same as Ty Thompson in the 2021 class. Saban brought him in to compete for the starting job, but Milroe beat him out. The Bama faithful were seriously worried about the QB situation and the first few games this year did not abate those concerns.

Saban benched Milroe after the Texas loss and started Buchner against USF. Both Buchner and Simpson looked horrible against USF, a game I was at in Tampa, that Bama struggled to win 17-3 with Bama favored by 34. The Bama fans were not pleased with that effort. Milroe started after that.

It will be interesting what the Bama QB’s do this off season with another 5 star in the 2024 class, the #3 ranked QB from Southern California. They will have two 5 stars and four 4 stars on the roster if Milroe and Buchner do not enter the NFL draft. Somebody is going to leave.

The real issue at hand is Will Stein. I see his name coming up on several of the coaching vacancies and he will invariably leave sometime soon for a head coaching job. Fortunately for him, he does not need to take a crappy HC job and can wait until a good offer comes along. His offense has been the best offense in Oregon’s history with 7.8 yards per play and as fun an offense to watch as I have seen since I began watching the Ducks (That goes back to when Mike Brundage was Oregon’s QB, who came from my hometown). I would hate to see him go, but it is inevitable. The Stein haters will cringe at my statement, but facts do not lie.

I'm not one to defend DR and his Lanning hating ways, lol, but I think you misread the quote and he's actually on the same page as you about Ty.

I'm personally not a Ty guy. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Let's just hope that if Stein gets another job, he has the decency to stay through the end of our run this year. Kinda like, ahem......Lanning did at Georgia.

Yep, my bad, the punctuation threw me off. I misread his sentence.

Thank you! I wasn't even going to reply as I figured it was a misread...has happened to all of us.
