If Bucky Irving was injured why did he have the most rushing attempts

Just read an article on OLive(behind a paywall but accessible on their Oregon FB app) which noted the significant decline in Oregon's rushing attack in the second half of the season.

After 7 games the Ducks led the Pac-12 and were 6th nationally in rushing...they finished 3rd in the Pac-12 and are now 31st nationally?!?

The article noted Bucky Irving's ankle injury against USC! I missed that one.

Against OSU he had 14 carries for 41 yards for a 2.9 avg.

Against the UW last Friday he had 9 carries for 20 yards for a 2.2 average.

In both games he had the most rushing attempts for the Ducks. Huh?

Meanwhile Jordan James had 7 carries for 41 yards and a 6.1 average against OSU / 5 carries for 35 yards and 7.0 average against the UW.

IF Irving was hobbled / injured / less than 100% / ineffective...WHY did he have the most rushing attempts? It makes no sense and especially with James playing better.

Oregon's 124 rushing yards(UW had 157) is deceiving because 44 were Nix's long sideline run.

I just don't believe an injured Irving was the best option over any other RB or even Nix himself. Against OSU it didn't matter but it probably did in a 3 point loss to the UW. Oh well.

I can only assume that Coach Locklyn controls the run game, and he decides the rotation. I'm guessing loyalty played a big part, and that is sad. Bucky was absolutely hurting, and IMO we should have seen the other backs.
